efence Research and Development DOrganisation (DRDO) on March 27, 2019 successfully conducted an Anti-Satellite (A-SAT) missile test ‘Mission Shakti’ from the Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island in Odisha. A DRDO- developed Ballistic Missile Defence (BMD) Interceptor Missile successfully engaged an Indian orbiting target satellite in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) in a ‘Hit to Kill’ mode. The interceptor missile was a three-stage missile with two solid rocket boosters. Tracking data from range sensors has confirmed that the mission met all its objectives. The test has demonstrated the Nation’s capability to defend its assets in outer space. It is a vindication of the strength and robust nature of DRDO’s programmes. With this, India joins a select group of nations after Russia, America and China which have such capability. The test has once again proved the capability of indigenous weapon systems. - PRO Defence

As part of 14th Army, the Corps participated in the Burma Campaign at Arakan during World War II. Subsequently, the Corps was shifted to Karachi. In October 1947, the Corps got tethered to Kashmir for the first time when its 161 Inf Bde was tasked to fight the invading Pakistani regulars and Kabailis. NS Kadmatt, a frontline ASW Corvette was one of the I15 naval ships representing 12 friendly navies from across the world including India, Australia, Bangladesh, Brunei, China, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam and USA participating with other ships of Royal Malaysian Navy in the International Fleet Review (IFR) on March 27, 2019. IFR is one of the numerous activities planned among the seven-day long 15th edition of Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA 19) being hosted by “The Isle of Legends”. IFR was reviewed by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Mahathir Mohamad with Vice Admiral Karambir Singh, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief ENC accompanying the Malaysian PM when the review ship KD Perantau sailed abreast of INS Kadmatt. The ship’s company of Kadmatt gave a traditional “Teen Jai” to the Indian Navy as the PM’s ship sailed past. The ships were diverted from sea post Cyclone 'IDAI' hit the coast of Mozambique on March 15, 2019 causing large scale destruction and loss of lives. At Port Beira, the ships rescued more than 150 survivors from Buzi area near Port Beira, which is cut off from the mainland. In addition two medical camps were set up at Port Beira and Gaura-Gaurathe Island and Medical assistance was provided to over 800 affected people from the local population. Gen Bipin Rawat, COAS approved the activity for the officer to commemorate the “Year of Disabled in the Line of Duty” and hence, started the journey on March 18, 2019, wherein the officer was trained on First Jump Course which successfully culminated on March 28, 2019, by safe and successful landing at the drop zone and witnessed by soldiers and recruits of training establishment at Nasik.
