This section describes changes to the Interplay Engine.

Interplay Production Engine Supported Hardware and OS

The following lists support for the Interplay Production Engine: • Interplay Production Engine RAM requirements -32 GB • Interplay Engine server operating system support: - Windows Server 2012 R2 (Single install and cluster) - Windows Server 2016 (Single install only) • Media Composer client operating system support: - Windows 8, 8.1, and 10 - Mac OS X El Capitan, Sierra, High Sierra n Check the latest version of the Interplay Production 2018.6 ReadMe for updates. Compatibility with MediaCentral Versions

Interplay Engine 2018.6 supports the following MediaCentral versions: • MediaCentral Cloud UX 2018.6 and higher • MediaCentral UX v2.10.x

One Interplay Production environment can connect to two MediaCentral systems: one running MediaCentral Cloud UX and one running MediaCentral UX v2.10.x.

Connecting to a MediaCentral UX 2.10.x System

In order to connect Interplay Production 2018.6 to a MediaCentral UX 2.10.x environment, do the following: • Install Interplay Access 2017.2 on at least one system in the Interplay Production 2018.6 environment. • Use the Interplay 2017.2 Admin tool (available within Access) to configure the PEBCo connection to Media Central UX 2.10.x environment.

This will enable searches between Interplay Production 2018.6 and Media Index in the MediaCentral UX 2.10.x environment. You can also use the 2017.2 Admin tool to connect to the MediaCentral UX 2.10.x Messaging application. Modified Interplay Admin Tool Views n Do not install Interplay Access 2017.2 and Interplay 2018.6 on the same system. Modified Interplay Admin Tool Views

The following Interplay Admin tool views are changed for Interplay 2018.6: • Production Engine Bus Connector (PEBCo) is replaced by the MediaCentral Search Connector in the MediaCentral Platform Settings view. • The MediaCentral UX Messaging application available in MediaCentral UX 2.10.x is supported by Interplay 2018.6 but the settings are removed from the Interplay 2018.6 Admin tool. You can use the 2017.2 Admin tool to connect to the MediaCentral UX 2.10.x Messaging application as described in the previous section.

Configuring Settings for MediaCentral Cloud UX

The Production Engine Bus Connector (PEBCo) and Media Index application used to configure searches between MediaCentral UX and Interplay Production is replaced by the MediaCentral Search Connector in MediaCentral Cloud UX.

In order to enable search from MediaCentral Cloud UX, the following Admin tool views must be configured: • User Management > User Authentication Providers > MediaCentral Platform Authentication • Site Settings > MediaCentral Platform Settings > MediaCentral Connection • Server > Server Settings • Site Settings > MediaCentral Search Connector

For details on configuring these views, see the MediaCentral Cloud UX Installation Guide.

Changes to the Custom Properties Tab

The Interplay Admin tool v3.8 though 2017.2 display an Index column on the Custom Properties tab in the Property Layout view. This setting allowed a user to turn off the internal indexed search for a specific custom property. The Index column is removed for Interplay Production 2018.6 for safety reasons. The following illustration shows the updated Custom Property tab.

4 Changes to the Custom Properties Tab

The remaining settings have not changed for this release. See the Interplay Engine and Interplay Archive Engine Administrator Guide for details.

The Interplay Admin tool available in Access v3.8 through 2017.2 contains the Index column c checkbox. When using Access v3.8 through 2017.2, always keep the Index values selected even if the custom property is marked as not available. Removing a custom property from the indexed search can adversely affect search performance.

5 3 What’s New for Media Indexer v2018.6

This section covers the following topics: • Software Updates • Viewing Ignored Items • MongoDB Security Enhancements • MI 2018.6 Update Requires a Reindex

Software Updates

The following components are updated for MI 2018.6: • MongoDB is updated to MongoDB v3.2.19 • AAF Toolkit is updated to 1.1.13.10011 • MongoDM is no longer run as a Windows service or Mac OS daemon. See “MongoDB Security Enhancements” on page 7.

Viewing Ignored Items

Media Indexer 2018.6 allows you to use the web interface to view and Ignored Items.

Since Media Indexer v3.8, the Media Indexer has been using a new approach for handling corrupted files or files that the MI is unable to parse. The new approach no longer moves files into quarantine folders. Now the MI internally marks the files as to-be-ignored.

Ignored files are reconsidered for processing when the file modification time changes. This new approach identifies whether the to-be-ignored items are ignored by the classic or format independence. Note that a file that is not supported by one indexing approach may still be supported by the other approach. MongoDB Security Enhancements

The following illustration shows the Ignored Items view on the MI web interface.

The ability to un-ignore items from the view will be added in a future release.

MongoDB Security Enhancements

Media Indexer 2018.6 uses MongoDB v3.2.19.

In addition, the MongoDB engine is no longer run as a Windows service or a Mac OS daemon. Now its run directly as part of the Media Indexer process.

To provide additional security, you can enable password security to prevent unauthorized access to the MongoDB database. See your Avid representative for additional information.

MI 2018.6 Update Requires a Reindex

Media Indexer v2018.6 includes a database schema change. When you update or reinstall MI it will update the database schema automatically. However, the schema change requires a reindex of all media files. The re-indexation is required to avoid stale data in the database for media files that are supported or fixed with this version of Media Indexer.

Upgrading to this version of Media Indexer requires a reindex of media files which can be time n consuming. Please plan accordingly. Note that the Interplay Best Practices Guide provides instructions on how to prebuild the MI cache and minimize service downtime for an upgrade.

7 4 New for Interplay Transfer v2018.6

This section covers the following topics: • Consistency Check for Ingested Media • Track Count in FTP Media Browse Tool • Interplay Transfer Limitations

Consistency Check for Ingested Media

This option allows you to disable essence validation when writing media. Avid has enhanced essence analysis in recent versions of Transfer Engine (Transfer Engine 3.8.1 and later). Ingest may fail when ingesting OP1A media which contains inconsistencies in the stream. In the 2018.6.0 release, essence validation is limited to AVC Intra, AVC Long GOP, DNxHD, and DNxHR formats. n You risk creating problematic media when disabling essence analysis. The consistency check is enabled by default. The consistency check examines every frame of an ingested media file to ensure that it is formatted correctly. In some cases the media created by some third party devices may not pass all the criteria even though the media is supported. If this happens you can disable the consistency check for that device.

To disable the consistency check for a specific device: 1. Open the Interplay Transfer Configuration dialog. 2. Select the device in the Ingest window and click Edit. The Ingest Device dialog box opens as shown in the following illustration. Track Count in FTP Media Browse Tool

3. Select Disable Essence Analysis and click OK.

Track Count in FTP Media Browse Tool

Prior to the Transfer Engine 2018.6 release, the track count displayed in the FTP Browser represented the total number of channels in the clip. If a clip had 4 tracks and each track contained 2 channels, 8 tracks were displayed in the FTP browser. The FTP Browser now displays the actual track count of the clip. In this case it would be 4 tracks.

The following illustration shows the difference for the same clip as displayed in 2017.2 and 2018.6. The clip contains 5 tracks and each track contains 2 channels. In 2017.2 this showed as 10 tracks. Now it correctly shows 5 tracks.

Interplay Transfer Limitations

The following limitations are present in Interplay Transfer 2018.6.

Sony AVC Intra 4K Resolutions Not Qualified on Interplay Transfer

Sony AVC Intra 4K resolutions are not yet qualified for Interplay Transfer ingest or playout.

Install Limitation on Transfer Engine Clients

The installer for Interplay Transfer clients is different depending on the editor version. • For releases of Media Composer later than 2018.5.x, use the client installer that is part of the Interplay Standalone installer. • For Media Composer 2018.5.x and earlier, use the installer named TransferClient_2018.6_VC12.zip.

The reason for the different installers is that Interplay Transfer client 2018.6 uses a new version of Microsoft Visual Studio associated with Media Composer releases greater than v2018.5.x. Note that Media Composer does not have a v2018.6 release.

9 5 Format Independence Resolutions Support

This section covers updated format independent support for Interplay Production 2018.6. • DNxHR and XAVC-I UHDTV 4k resolutions are now supported in Interplay Transcode with the following limitations: - The version of Transcode used by Media Composer Cloud Remote does not support these formats at this time. - (DEFI-430) When using XAVC-I UHDTV as a target, you cannot transcode the same clip to both CBC and VBR. • Sony AVC Intra 4K resolutions are not yet qualified for Interplay Transfer ingest or playout. n Check the latest version of the Interplay Production 2018.6 ReadMe for updates. The following tables list the formats that have been qualified for Interplay Production. DNxHR Resolutions Supported in Interplay Production DNxHR Resolutions Supported in Interplay Production
