The primary means of achieving this objective is for the planning authority to compile and maintain a record of protected structures to be included in the development plan. A planning authority is obliged to include in the Record of Protected Structures every structure which, in its opinion, is of special architectural, historical, archaeological, artistic, cultural, scientific, social or technical interest.
