Description 3D structural model Geographic Greater Toronto Area, Southern Ontario area NTS coverage Hamilton (30M/5), Toronto (30M11), Brampton (30M/12), Bolton (30 M/13), Markham (30M/14), (30M/15), Port Hope (30M/16), Alliston (31D/4), Newmarket (31D/3), Scugog (31D/2), Rice Lake (31D/1), (40P/9), Beaverton (31D/6), Orangeville (40P/16). Trenton (31C/4) Abstract The files contained on this CD-ROM comprise the version 2.0 digital release of the Oak Ridges Moraine (ORM) regional structural model. The model was developed under the Geologcial Survey of Canada’s NATMAP (National Mapping Program) and Groundwater Program in collaboration with partner agencies (e.g., Ontario Geological Survey, Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources, Conservation Authorities Moraine Coalition). The model consists of a series of gridded surfaces that define the top and bottom of 5 Quaternary stratigraphic units plus bedrock surface. The modelled units are, stratigraphically from oldest to youngest: 1) Paleozoic bedrock, 2) Lower sediment, 3) Newmarket Till, 4) ORM sediment, 5) Halton Till, and 6) Glaciolacustrine and Recent sediment. Each unit has a companion confidence map that is based on the proximity to, and relative quality of data control points that were used to interpolate its surface. Surfaces were produced using Natural Neighbour interpolations in MapInfo Professional with Vertical Mapper. Database management, data analysis and programming were completed using Microsoft Access 2000 and Visual Basic for Applications. Surfaces and confidence maps are viewable with MapInfo Proviewer included with this release for convenience. For viewing the surfaces in other GIS software, including ArcInfo, a standard ASCII grid version of each file is also provided.
