Contents INTRO THIS IS LSU TIGERS COACHES REVIEW HISTORY LSU A Perfect Fit LSU football enters into a new era in 2005 as Les Miles, the 2002 Big 12 Conference Coach of the Year, takes the reigns of the Tigers. Miles, who learned the coaching trade from some of the best, including Bo Schembechler at Michigan and Bill McCartney at Colorado, brings to Baton Rouge a contagious enthusiasm and a passionate spirit for the game that has already grabbed the attention of his players. Considered a family man with strong values, Miles also brings a philosophy that focuses on his players hav- ing success in all areas of life. Under the Miles Plan, his players will leave LSU with a degree in one hand and a championship ring on another. A proven recruiter who has a keen eye for assessing talent as well as character, Miles has all of the tools necessary to keep the Tigers among the nation's elite. 8 PAGE 97 34 61 70 182 Gameday History The Tigers Death Valley In Baton Rouge, LSU football is not Tinsley, Stewart, Tittle, Taylor, Cannon, With 17 starters returning from last Like no other college football setting just a game, it's an event. TABLE OF CONTENTS PAST CHAIRPERSON’S REPORT 3 CHAIRPERSON’S REPORT 5 PRESIDENT & CEO'S REPORT 7 FOOTBALL OPERATIONS 8 COMMUNITY RELATIONS 10 TREASURER’S REPORT 14 BUSINESS PLAN SUMMARY 18 CONSOLIDATED FINANCIAL STATEMENTS 19 WINNIPEG FOOTBALL CLUB 2015 ANNUAL REPORT Page 1 PAST CHAIRPERSON’S REPORT In what proved to be a very busy and exciting year at Investors Group Field, the Winnipeg Football Club showed the nation that without a doubt, we have the community, facility, experience and capabilities to host world-class events here at our stadium. Although the on-field success fell well short of our goals, we believe that we are taking steps in the right direction to quickly address this and we are therefore eager to move ahead with the 2016 season. General Manager Kyle Walters and his team worked hard to significantly boost the on-field talent on February 9th in Free Agency, adding key players such as running back Andrew Harris, kicker Justin Medlock, defensive tackle Keith Shologan, and receivers Ryan Smith and Weston Dressler. We are confident that all of these CFL stars will become fan favourites as Winnipeg Blue Bombers. With a very successful FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015 held at our great stadium this past June, we showed our country as well as the entire international soccer community that we have what it takes to put on a fantastic soccer tournament. In 2015, the Winnipeg Football Club also hosted one of the most positively reviewed Grey Cup events to date. The 103rd Grey Cup was more than just a sell- out; it set the bar for all Grey Cups to come.

  • Key Historical Moments
KEY HISTORICAL MOMENTS GETTING INTO THE WIFU: 1951 TO 1954 1951 A group led by Ken Stauffer and Tiny Radar, inspired by columnist Andy Lytle, sends representatives to the off-season Western Interprovincial Football Union meetings to initiate Vancouver’s bid for a team. 1952 WIFU rejects Vancouver’s application when Winnipeg and Regina vote against the idea of a fifth team. 1953 The first annual meeting of the club, held on January 22, 1953 saw Arthur E. Mercer named as the first President. With the help of future Hall of Fame builder Vic Spencer, Vancouver was granted a conditional franchise on the requirements of a 15,000 seat stadium, selling 6,500 season tickets and providing guaranteed travel expenses of the visiting teams. The Lions hire their first head coach Annis Stukus who begins to scout for players without the aid of an expansion draft. 1953 Water boy and future club GM, President and Hall of Famer Bob Ackles is hired. 1954 Empire Stadium opens in time for the 1954 British Empire Games and the Lions’ inaugural season in the WIFU. The Lions first-ever game is a 22-0 pre-season loss to Montreal before 19,371 spectators. 1954 The Lions open at home on August 28, 1954 against Winnipeg and their first ever TD comes a minute before half-time as By Bailey crashes over from a yard out to give BC a 5-1 lead. The Bombers fought back however with a TD to level the score. Two 4th quarter singles eventually gave Winnipeg the victory by an 8-6 count.
