Thanks to the Popes moving to Avignon in the 13th century there was a surge in regional winemaking with the increased demand. The various AOC wines of the Rhône Valley region are produced by over 6,000 wine growing properties including 1,837 private wineries and 103 cooperatives. Syrah, which is believed to have originated in or close to the Northern Rhône region is the only red grape variety permitted in red AOC wines from this sub-region. The winery tours During the tours you will visit the vineyards and cellars of leading wine domaines in premium Rhone villages including the cru villages of Gigondas, Vacqueyras, Rasteau, Châteauneuf du Pape in the Southern Rhône and Hermitage, St Joseph, Cornas and Crozes Hermitage in the Northern Rhône. As we visit the scenic vineyards our guide will explain the local appellation and the local wine-growing culture - in particular the notion of "terroir". He will contrast the vineyard/terroir - driven approach of the Rhône appellation to the more cellar-driven approach of the New World. As you visit the cellars our guide will explain key elements of the winemaking process which are specific to the region. We will taste four to five wines per estate during which our guide will explain the tasting characteristics of the Rhône grape varieties, the ageing potential of the wines and the varying influences of the terroir and cellar methods on the wines that we taste. At the domains visited we will supply a small selection of cheese with which to taste and appreciate the wines. As seasoned wine tourists we will tailor our time together accordingly. Here is our proposed agenda Into The Vineyard – www.IntoTheVineyard.com Email: [email protected] Tel: 1 604 629 1173 | Fax: 1 604 899 9401 Suite 328 - 1085 Homer St. Vancouver, Canada, V6B 2X5 Day 1 Your day begins with a Comfort Class high speed pre-booked train trip to Avignon from Paris you will be met at the train station and transferred with your luggage to your hotel afternoon to explore the City of Avignon. As your historian guide illuminates the sites that inspired Van Gogh, you realize that you’ve stepped into one of his paintings. Aesthetic revelations are nothing new in Provence: perched medieval villages of stone walls and powder blue shutters; market stalls fragrant with fresh-cut lavender, honey-almond nougat and multi- hued soaps. Break your morning stroll through the olive groves with a wine tasting amidst a sea of grapevines. Pause for lunch with a jeweler in her courtyard garden. Prowl Avignon’s papal palace or the Roman ruins of Vaison-la-Romaine. When you walk through Provence, village to village, market to market, you put yourself right in the picture. Highlights Stroll through the villages of Séguret and Les Baux, noted for being some of the most beautiful in France. Experience a “zen” moment at the sensational multimedia art show at Carrières de Lumières in Les Baux. Gaze upon the sweeping landscapes and beautiful backdrops that inspired Vincent van Gogh’s most influential paintings. 1 / 10 countrywalkers.com 800.234.6900 Activity Level This tour is one of our Flex-Guided Walking Adventures, rated easy with moderate sections with an average of 2 to 6 miles per day. • Vacqueyras Rouge “Boiseraie” 2017
OGIER VACQUEYRAS ROUGE “BOISERAIE” 2017 BACKGROUND “Remain close to the source in order to better understand the constraints, but also harness its potential.” This maxim guides Ogier’s principles in producing some of the most awarded wines from the Châteauneuf- du-Pape appellation. The estate’s vineyards are spread throughout several small valleys, covered in its hallmark round pebbles and stones. By reflecting the sun’s heat, this stony soil enables grapes to retain exceptional levels of ripeness to produce large-bodied and complex wines that make Ogier one of the foremost houses in the Rhône Valley. In the early 20th century, Châteauneuf du Pape was already known for its terroirs and wine, but the village also prospered by making the barrels in which wines were shipped on the Rhône River. The Ogier cellars in the heart of the village housed a renowned cooperage, and this heritage of craftsmanship has given us the expertise to make outstanding wines, as our Boiseraie Vacqueyras shows. APPELLATION Vacqueyras (Rhône Valley), France VARIETAL COMPOSITION 60% Grenache, 35% Syrah, 5% Mourvèdre WINE ADVOCATE 91 October 2018 TERROIR & VINTAGE NOTES POINTS The terroir includes clay and limestone slopes and alluvial deposits on terraces. The vineyard extends over the two communes of Vacqueyras and Sarrians in the department of Vaucluse, at the foot of the Dentelles de Montmirail, from Vienna to Avignon. Crossed by the Rhone, its appellations are caressed by both the wind and the sun. WINEMAKING Partial de-stemming of the Grenaches (to leave stems on a maximum of 15% of the grapes); one to two rack and returns in fermentation phase WINEMAKER and small daily pump overs, followed by a long maceration period Edouard Guerin of 26 to 40 days.

Côtes du Rhône • Châteauneuf-du-Pape • Ventoux • Luberon A wine adventure in Vaucluse 2016 press kit Vaucluse Tourism www.provenceguide.com « A DAY WITHOUT WINE IS A DAY WITHOUT SUNSHINE» as the saying goes and Vaucluse can rely on both! Without any doubt, the history of vineyards, grown here for thousands of years, and the history of Vaucluse are inex- tricably intertwined. Each in their time, Greeks, Romans, the Popes, the Jews - not to mention the mighty Rhône River, have all had a decisive influence on both. Three appellations cover the area here – Côtes du Rhône, AOC Ventoux, and AOC Luberon. The Châteauneuf-du-Pape vintage has attained international fame and more than half of the villages in Vaucluse make their living from wine. Since times past when the traveller took refuge in monasteries, welcomed with a glass of wine, wine has remained a symbol of friendship, of sharing, of human warmth and joie de vivre... In other words, wine is a lifestyle, the Vaucluse lifestyle. www.wine-tourism-provence.co.uk YOUR CONTACTS IN OUR PRESS DEPARTMENT Valérie BISET Head of Press and Communications [email protected] T. +33(0)4 90 80 47 06 Daniela DAMIANI National and international press [email protected] T. +33(0)4 90 80 47 07 Valérie GILLET International Press [email protected] T. +33(0)4 90 80 47 08 Teresa STORM International Press [email protected]. +33(0)4 90 80 47 04 VAUCLUSE TOURISM – Wine Press Kit 2016 - Contact: Valérie BISET – T. 33 (0)4 90 80 47 06 [email protected] - www.wine-tourism-provence.co.uk - http://press.provenceguide.com Page | 3 Table of contents 04 Zoom on..
