You Want It Darker, mês passado.

Outros discos se seguiram “Songs from a room” (anos 60), Songs of love and hate (anos 70), Live songs (1973 disco ao vivo).

  • Leonard Cohen, the Priest of a Catacomb Religion *
Leonard Cohen, the Priest of a Catacomb Religion * Jiří Měsíc Palacký University, Olomouc, Czech Republic Abstract This essay focuses on the poet/prophet as a speaker of the Divine Word. While the gift of prophecy is a very marginal matter among poets of every generation, those who received the gift have been the most important voices of our culture(s). Leonard Cohen reveals himself, at least during certain periods in his career, as being insecure about whether to accept the role of a priest, which he inherited, or a prophet, to which he naturally inclines. On the other hand, some still argue that he only stylizes himself into these roles. The Jewish community had objections to Cohen’s literary works, especially in the 1960s, since he honored values that were at odds with the common religious practices. Therefore, he decided to become the partisan of a catacomb religion in which he merged the roles of a priest and prophet together. This experiment crystallized in his later work and may be seen as an achievement of high spiritual as well as artistic merit. Keywords Leonard Cohen; poet; prophet; singer; priest; Judaism; Christianity; Islam Introduction The Torah, or, in a broad sense, the Old Testament, often speaks about prophets whose words were inspired by G-d. In these texts G-d usually speaks by Himself or through His messengers/prophets and reveals His intentions to the people. In the Book of Deuteronomy, He says: “I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him” (Deut.

  • The Lyrics of Leonard Cohen by Leonard Cohen the 10 Best Leonard Cohen Lyrics, by Lemuria's Alex Kerns
Read Ebook {PDF EPUB} The Lyrics of Leonard Cohen by Leonard Cohen The 10 best Leonard Cohen lyrics, by Lemuria's Alex Kerns. It’s been 10 years since New York-based indie-punk trio Lemuria wrote their debut album. Entitled Get Better , and written in the wake of vocalist, drummer and songwriter Alex Kerns losing his father, the album was a powerful exploration of grief and sorrow – the essence of which borrowed from the blueprint laid out by Leonard Cohen, and his songs of love, loss and humanity. It was also the album which allowed Kerns to hone his songwriting abilities most keenly. “Listening back I find a sanctuary, a place where nothing is permanent, where feelings are tempered with time and glass becomes sand,” Kerns explains now. “Now that you know the setting, it may give some of the lyrics more clarity. Themes rooted in stress and clouded with numbness simultaneously. Time might not expire the feelings the decade old songs document, but it provides proof of your ability to pivot.” To mark the album’s 10th year, Kerns pays tribute to his chief inspiration, Leonard Cohen, and remembers the impact he had on his own songwriting. ‘All I ever learned from love is how to shoot at someone who outdrew you’ “The verses to Leonard Cohen’s most popular song, Hallelujah, change frequently over the half-century-long career that he left us. This always seemed faithful to his character, because his songs feel like a journal, kept as he aged, matured and desperately searched for the meaning of life.

Leonard Cohen: Songs From A Room By Harvey Kubernik © 2019 April 7, 2019 marks the 50 th anniversary of Leonard Cohen’s second Columbia Records album, Songs From A Room in 1969. It reached No. 63 on the US Billboard Top LPs and No. 2 on the UK charts. “Initially, Songs From A Room felt like a trespass,” suggested writer Marina Muhlfriedel. “How dare Leonard Cohen dilute the sacred incursion his first album, forged into my being? For some reason, I never considered the possibility of a follow-up. Songs of Leonard Cohen was so personal, so monolithic, I assumed it to be a singular event. “It took a friend planting me on a couch, cranking up the speakers and demanding I listen. Before ‘Bird On the Wire’ was over, tears flowed. It was so damn beautiful — a hymn, a confession, a deep bow of humility striking a nearly unbearable nerve. Leonard seemed a bit older, wearier, less embellished, but once again that trickster sunk right into my soul.” "Leonard wrote songs because he had to, and because he wanted to get laid,” observed author, record producer and deejay Andrew Loog Oldham in a 2014 interview we conducted. “Later he wrote songs because he wanted to get paid. That's when I decided he had something to say.” I was on the UCLA campus in Westwood, California when Cohen debuted in 1970 at Royce Hall. Michelle Phillips of the Mamas & the Papas was one of Leonard’s singers that evening. Mama Cass Elliot had already covered “You Know Who I Am” from Cohen’s Songs From A Room on her 1968 album Dream a Little Dream.
