Un festival de cinéma au thème universel Créé en 1984 par Elio Di Rupo, le Festival de Mons explore depuis trois décennies le thème de « l’Amour » au cinéma à travers une programmation internationale composée d’un grand nombre de films inédits et dans laquelle se rejoignent qualité et plaisir de cinéma. Un espace de rencontre en plein renouveau Relancé en 2019 par une nouvelle équipe et une nouvelle dynamique, le Festival de Mons est un rendez-vous cinématographique interculturel et intergénérationnel, un espace de rencontre pour le grand public et les cinéphiles venus partager les émotions du grand écran et rencontrer des personnalités du cinéma. Un événement international ancré dans une ville qui aime la culture Riche d’une longue histoire et d’une identité singulière, le festival rayonne depuis plusieurs décennies sur le plan international. C’est ainsi près de 4000 invités en provenance de tous les continents qui ont foulé les pavés d’une ville devenue Capitale Européenne de la Culture en 2015. Après avoir étudié à la « Rue Blanche » (ENSATT) et au Conservatoire National, dans la classe d’Antoine Vitez, il part à l’aventure pour trois années de voyages en vivant de petits métiers, au lieu d’entrer à la Comédie Française, comme on le lui propose. Puis, il revient au théâtre en France et en Grèce avant de rencontrer Peter Brook et de faire partie de sa compagnie pendant plusieurs années. Notamment, pour la grande aventure du Mahabharata. C’est là que David Lean le remarque et l’engage pour jouer le rôle principal de Nostromo, son dernier projet qui ne verra malheureusement jamais le jour. C’est pourtant ce qui marque un virage dans sa carrière car il commence alors à jouer pour le cinéma dans de nombreux pays. En France, c’est surtout la télévision qui le rend populaire. En Grèce, c’est avec des films d’auteur audacieux et quelques films grand public de qualité qu’il se fait connaitre. De 2005 à 2010, il est le Président des deux principaux festivals de cinéma grecs, le Thessaloniki International Film Festival et le Thessaloniki Documentary Festival. Il revient de temps en temps au théâtre, notamment avec une pièce inspirée de plusieurs œuvres de Kazantzakis qu’il écrit et met en Scène à Paris et à Athènes. Actuellement, il poursuit sa carrière d’acteur, tout en développant des projets de longs métrages et de documentaires en tant que scénariste et réalisateur. In the 2003 film Polítiki Kouzína / A Touch of Spice / Baharatin Tadi, the Istanbul-born Greek filmmaker Tasos Boulmetis digitally combines heterogeneous elements to reconstruct a vir- tual experience of his own sense and memory of Istanbul: the urban land- scape in the film is a hybrid of on-location scenes of the modern city, CGI and enhanced coloring, digitally fused into a mural of historical and per- sonal memories.
