Was your inten- tion to depict a family from a different angle compared to your previous films? The first thing that came to my mind was the tagline: “Only the crimes tied us together”. On its 10th anniversary, the Los Angeles Greek Film Festival (LAGFF) offers a special thematic tribute to culinary Greek cinema at the Egyptian Theatre on June 1-5, 2016 “Reason to”, the company for “Gastronomy Days” and the AICFF, in collaboration with LAGFF, and with the support of the Greek National Tourist Organization (EOT), will be presenting to the American public, the Greek-American community of Southern California and to US media representatives a selective program of culinary events. To launch this inaugural collaboration, we are offering a cinematic three-course meal: We begin with hors d’oeuvres on Thursday, June 2nd at 4pm, screening seven animation and experimental shorts: For our main course, we will be screening Tassos’ Boulmetis acclaimed feature Touch of Spice on Saturday, June 4th at noon. For our dessert, we are offering Angelos Abatzoglou, Mustafa's Sweet Dreams on Sunday, June 5th at noon. The screening program is complemented by a live cooking show and tastings on Saturday, June 4th, 7:00-8:00pm, and a gastronomy panel discussion on Sunday June 5th at 1:30pm. In Spring 2016, 16 students of Loyola Marymount University interned with the Los Angeles Greek Film festival as part of a course taught by Dr. Zacharia, LMU Professor of Classics and LAGFF Director of Education and Culture. The course activities included research projects on Greek cinema, gastronomy and culture. According to “Reason to” President John Gourtzelas, and AICFF/Gastronomy Days Artistic Director at the 2016 LAGFF Takis Panagiotopoulos, “this initiative, which has already received the enthusiastic support by the public and culinary experts, is the first step for a more systematic presence and promotion of contemporary Greek gastronomy on the west coast of the United States”. -

2 Days in NEW York PRESENTED by ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY
The Premieres program showcases some of the most highly anticipated dramatic films of the coming year. Catch world premieres and the latest work from established directors at the Sundance Film Festival before they create a splash at local theatres. 2 DAYS IN New York DIRECTOR: Julie Delpy France, 2011, 91 min., color English and French with English subtitles Marion and Mingus live cozily—perhaps too cozily—with their cat and two young children from previous relationships. However, when Marion’s jolly father (played by director Delpy’s real-life dad), her oversexed sister, and her sister’s outrageous boyfriend unceremoniously descend upon them for a visit, it initiates two unforgettable days that will test Marion and Mingus’s relationship. With their unwitting racism and sexual frankness, the French triumvirate hilariously has no boundaries or filters . and no person is left unscathed in its wake. Directed and cowritten by Julie Delpy, 2 Days in New York is a deliciously PRESENTED by Entertainment Weekly witty romp. One of the pleasures of this follow-up film to 2 Days in Paris is the addition of Chris Rock, who—amid the Gallic mayhem—convincingly plays the straight man as Marion’s hipster American boyfriend. With great skill and energy, Delpy heightens cultural differences to comedic extremes but also manages to show that sometimes change is the best solution to a relationship that’s been pushed to its limit.—K.Y. It only looks like it the Coca Cola Film Festival if you read it too fast. September 3, 2019 Critic's Picks: A September To-Do List for Film Buffs in L.A Alain Delon in 'Purple Moon' (1960) A classic lesbian drama, French noirs starring Alain Delon and Jean Gabin and a series of matinees devoted to Katharine Hepburn are among the plentiful vintage and classic options for SoCal film buffs this month. OLIVIA AT THE LAEMMLE ROYAL | 11523 Santa Monica Blvd. Already underway and screening daily through Sept. 5 at the Laemmle Royal is a new digital restoration of Jacqueline Audry’s trailblazing 1951 feature Olivia, one of the first films, French or otherwise, to deal with female homosexuality. Set in a 19th-century Parisian finishing school for girls, the film depicts the struggle between two head mistresses (Edwige Feuillere and Simone Simon) for the affection of their students, and how one girl’s (Marie-Claire Olivia) romantic urges stir jealousy in the house. Audry, one of the key female filmmakers of post-World War II France, stages this feverish chamber drama (based on a novel by the English writer Dorothy Bussy) with a delicate yet incisive touch, allowing the story’s implicit sensuality to simmer ominously without boiling over into undue hysterics. Lesbian dramas would soon become more explicit, but few have matched Olivia’s unique combination of elegance and eroticism. Monte and his daughter Willow live together aboard a spacecraft, in complete isolation. A man whose strict self-discipline is a shield against desire, Monte fathered her against his will. His sperm was used to inseminate the young woman who gave birth to her. They were members of a crew of prisoners – death row inmates. Guinea pigs sent on a mission. Now only Monte and Willow remain. Through his daughter, he experiences the birth of an all-powerful love. Together, father and daughter approach their destination – the black hole in which time and space cease to exist. How did High Life come about? A while back, an English producer asked me if I wanted to participate in a collection of films called Femmes Fatales. At first, I wasn’t that interested, but after thinking it over, I agreed. The project took ages to get off the ground. There was no money. It took 6 or 7 years to hammer out a coproduction: France, Germany, Poland and eventually America. During that time, I went to England and the States to meet with actors. The actor I dreamed of for the lead role of Monte was Philip Seymour Hoffman, because of his age, his weariness – but he died mid- route. -

Key-words: Richard Linklater; Viena; Paris; Grécia; Cinema; Espaço; Viagem. “Maybe I only exist in your mind, but still just as real as anything else.”
