The World Governing Body for Hockey, announced its decision on Friday. Having worked his way from the domestic circuit to the international level, Sarangi has been an exceptional Technical Official for the past few years, which has seen him being appointed for various tournaments around the globe. His first international appointment by the International Hockey Federation (FIH) was in August 2018 when he was promoted to FIH International Technical Official. His exposure at the international level has also seen him being involved as an Assistant Technical Delegate at the 30th Southeast Asian Games 2019 in Philippines, and as Judge during the 2020 edition of the FIH Hockey Pro League. Excited at the news of his promotion to Technical Officer - Advancement Panel, Sarangi said, “I am delighted to have been granted the promotion to Technical Officer - Advancement Panel by the FIH Officials Committee. It is a huge honour for me to be representing our nation at such a huge level, and it comes down to the exposure I have been provided by Hockey India during my career as a Technical Official. -

Umpire Cup The year 2019 saw an early season taking off for the Malaysian Hockey League. 7. SUKMA 2018 The league consisted of some very high quality matches and for the Umpiring part of it, only the selected ones officiated. The teams were no short of talent, 8. National U14 roping in foreigners in their lineups. The Umpiring team too, for the first time in the history of the MHL had a foreign flavor, namely Hideki Kinoshita of Japan Kino had a great stint and easily adapted to the Malaysian hospitality and was easy to communicate with. The local Umpires did benefit very much from Kino just as Kino benefitted from the Malaysian’s. With this successful “test” stint, the Umpiring Committee is now looking into the prospects of engaging with a couple more exchange programs with top playing Nations in terms of Umpiring. As for our Umpires, the UC is pleased to note the progress that has taken place leading to the appointments of our umpires in the top Pro League of the FIH and the many FIH and AHF appointments our umpires have received in the various tournaments around the globe. For all these achievements, the UC would like to thank the parent body; the Malaysian Hockey Confederation who has played a pertinent role with is utmost support towards this achievement. The Umpiring fraternity in return pledges its support to the MHC and will uphold with integrity its promise to improve further the standards of Umpiring. -

Who Are the Falcons
Like our native New Zealand Falcon, the Kārearea, we reside in and represent the central North Island region, a region woven together by the majestic central mountain ranges. The Falcon is the fastest predator on earth with impeccable vision. They are fiercely territorial and their attacks against intruders are as calculated as they are ferocious. Well known for attacking with aggressive strikes, as ‘birds of prey’ they are unafraid of taking down targets bigger than themselves. That sounds like us! And beware! As FALCONS we predominantly feed on live prey. For us, it tastes better that way! Black Sticks Named for Oceania Olympic Qualifier in Hobart
21 September, 2011 Media release Black Sticks named for Oceania Olympic Qualifier in Hobart The Black Sticks national coaches have named their teams for the 2011 Oceania Olympic Qualifier to be played in Hobart from 6-9 October, 2011. The Oceania region has two Olympic allocations courtesy of world rankings for both men and women and with Fiji having pulled out it gives Australia and New Zealand automatic qualification to the London Olympics. The qualifier will now be a three test series between the two rival teams. The national coaches say the qualifier will be more about getting further test experience against Australia and gaining valuable world ranking points. Black Sticks Women’s coach Mark Hager has named an experienced team, selecting the same 18 players who beat Australia in pool play and went on to win bronze at the 2011 Champions Trophy in July in Amsterdam. “This will be a hard fought series against a top team - there is so much rivalry between these two sides. With us ranked sixth and Australia ranked seventh, we will need to win the series in order to hold our position,” says Hager. Black Sticks Men’s coach Shane McLeod has chosen a very experienced men’s team with players like Phil Burrows, Blair Hopping and Dean Couzins – all who rack up a total 730 test caps. This will be the opportunity to take on world champions Australia, which will be invaluable in their build up to the Champions Trophy being held at North Harbour in early December. “This Olympic qualifier forms a key component of our preparation towards Champions Trophy and will allow us to test our game against a world champion, gold medal team. -
