MONDAY, APRIL 13, 2015 SPORTS Hamilton wins Chinese GP Rosberg accuses teammate of selfish driving SHANGHAI: Lewis Hamilton shrugged off accu- sations of selfish driving from beaten team mate Nico Rosberg yesterday after the Formula One world champion led Mercedes to a Chinese Grand Prix one-two finish. If the race ended in anti-climax, with the safety car deployed for the last two laps, the sparks flew afterwards when a seething Rosberg said Hamilton had compro- mised his race by driving too slow. The flare up of tensions between the two, so evident last year, sent Mercedes bosses into fire-fighting mode when they might have hoped to have cel- ebrated reasserting their dominance over Ferrari. The team’s non-executive chairman and former triple champion Niki Lauda made clear whose side he was on. “Sure, everyone drives selfish,” commented the Austrian. “What do you think these guys are here to do? I call them egocentric bastards. “That is the only way to win and the only way to win the championship.” Hamilton, who led AUGUSTA: Jordan Spieth tees off on the 18th hole during the third round of the from pole position and controlled the race pace Masters golf tournament. —AP to Rosberg’s discomfort, was unrepentant after celebrating a 35th career win-and fourth in China-that left him 13 points clear at the top Spieth refuses to crack after three races. “It’s not my job to look after Nico’s race,” said the Briton, who could point also to the fact that under Masters pressure he ended the day with the fastest lap of the race.

  • Who Are the Falcons
Like our native New Zealand Falcon, the Kārearea, we reside in and represent the central North Island region, a region woven together by the majestic central mountain ranges. The Falcon is the fastest predator on earth with impeccable vision. They are fiercely territorial and their attacks against intruders are as calculated as they are ferocious. Well known for attacking with aggressive strikes, as ‘birds of prey’ they are unafraid of taking down targets bigger than themselves. That sounds like us! And beware! As FALCONS we predominantly feed on live prey. For us, it tastes better that way! • Black Sticks Named for Oceania Olympic Qualifier in Hobart
21 September, 2011 Media release Black Sticks named for Oceania Olympic Qualifier in Hobart The Black Sticks national coaches have named their teams for the 2011 Oceania Olympic Qualifier to be played in Hobart from 6-9 October, 2011. The Oceania region has two Olympic allocations courtesy of world rankings for both men and women and with Fiji having pulled out it gives Australia and New Zealand automatic qualification to the London Olympics. The qualifier will now be a three test series between the two rival teams. The national coaches say the qualifier will be more about getting further test experience against Australia and gaining valuable world ranking points. Black Sticks Women’s coach Mark Hager has named an experienced team, selecting the same 18 players who beat Australia in pool play and went on to win bronze at the 2011 Champions Trophy in July in Amsterdam. “This will be a hard fought series against a top team - there is so much rivalry between these two sides. With us ranked sixth and Australia ranked seventh, we will need to win the series in order to hold our position,” says Hager. Black Sticks Men’s coach Shane McLeod has chosen a very experienced men’s team with players like Phil Burrows, Blair Hopping and Dean Couzins – all who rack up a total 730 test caps. This will be the opportunity to take on world champions Australia, which will be invaluable in their build up to the Champions Trophy being held at North Harbour in early December. “This Olympic qualifier forms a key component of our preparation towards Champions Trophy and will allow us to test our game against a world champion, gold medal team.

Sir Peter Leitch’s Mad Butcher Club AT MT SMART STADIUM, HOME OF THE MIGHTY VODAFONE WARRIORS 17th September 2015 Newsletter #90 To subscribe or unsubscribe email: [email protected] WENT TO the Vodafone Warriors’ 21st Annual Awards at the Sky City Convention ICentre on Tuesday night and it was superb. From the moment I stepped out of my car and entered the SkyCity Grand Hotel the night rocked. There was a red carpet treatment and when you got upstairs there were player banners hanging from the ceiling, giving the whole place a wow factor. You used to hang about outside in the lobby but this year it was straight into a room to mix and mingle, and the awards themselves were presented in cinema style, with everyone seated. The food and atmosphere was a 10+ that’s for sure. You will know by now that Ben Matulino was named player of the year for the second time in four years, joining Steve Price (2006-07) and Simon Mannering (2008, 2011, 2013 and 2014) as the only other players who have won more than once. The rookie of the year went to Tuimoala Lolohea, after a season where he finished with 11 tries including a double in the final match against the Dogs. Also announced were the two premier awards for the club’s New South Wales Cup side, with prop John Palavi winning player of the year and halfback Mason Linothe the rookie award. The awards began with the club’s de- parting players being acknowledged, and a number of milestones marked, including Shaun Johnson getting his 100-game ring, and a special presenta- tion to Manu Vatuvei for being the first player in NRL history to score 10 tries or more in 10 consecutive seasons.
