On boardwalks and unsurfaced paths with some steps. May be muddy in wet weather. Boggy ground and open water in places. Dog-friendly. Time: 30 minutes. Step count: 2,200 steps. 6 JRR Tolkien lived near Moseley Bog as a boy and the place inspired his descriptions of ancient forests in his books START The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. At the car park take the path to the left of the information panel. 1 When you come to a field on the right, cross the grass to go into the woods then continue along a path. When you reach a viewpoint take a flight of steps down into the valley. Turn left at the bottom, then when you reach the boardwalk across a stream turn right. Soon you come to an interpretation panel. The raised ground in front of you, on both sides of the stream is a burnt mound, radiocarbon dated to the Bronze Age, about 1000 B.C. -

Appendix 13 Sarehole Residents’ Association Response to The Boundary Commission Proposals from the Residents of Green Road, Keel Drive, Burke Avenue, Moseley, Birmingham B13 Our part of Moseley is not Sparkhill South. In terms of its environment, social and historical links it is Moseley: shops, churches; local businesses, schools; and all the Moseley organisations that make up the community. We have no connection to a proposed Sparkhill South Ward. We are a small enclave: a corner of Moseley, one mile from Moseley Village centre itself. We are bounded on one side by the River Cole, with variable access via a ford to the Hall Green area; on the other side direct access by road to Moseley: its centre; its surgeries; cafes; pubs; festivals and Farmers’ Market. Moseley is where we belong; and we are part of its vibrant community-driven culture. As you will know, Moseley, last year, was voted the best urban living environment in the UK by a panel of Sunday Times judges; and featured widely in newspaper articles. The ward boundary structure facilitated a cohesive approach to effective local government within the community. In our recent door-to-door survey we contacted 35 of the 42 houses in Green Road, Keel Drive and Burke Avenue. The proposal to include our part of Moseley in Sparkhill South Ward was rejected unanimously. There are no working links, common issues or affinity with Sparkhill South. One Sparkhill South councillor, dealing with a heavy workload of different needs to ours, could well cause our part of Moseley to be severely marginalised. -

Police Tasking Issues A police report had been submitted and circulated. The Chair highlighted the spike in burglaries but that the police were following leads to hopefully secure arrests. Two people had been charged with fly tipping at Sarehole Mill & Swanshurst Park Swanshurst Park and a vehicle seized. With regard to the travellers, the Chair injunction - Chair to update at advised that he had a meeting with the Head of Environmental next meeting Health to discuss an injunction for Swanshurst Park, similar to that agreed for parks in Selly Oak. Members of the travelling community referred to comments posted on the B13 News website that were racist and threatening towards travellers. Police had previously stated that hate crime would not be tolerated and therefore action was sought in respect of the comments posted as they lived in constant fear for their safety. The travellers advised that they were working with the Head of Environmental Services to find a site for a transit camp and residents were asked to request that a camp be identified in the City. In response to questions the meeting was advised that the site at Castle Vale was a permanent site and not a transit site.
