For example, a color filter can be attached to the front of the lens which causes that particular color to appear brighter in the file than reality. The famous landscape photography artist Ansel Adams used filters to get the opposite effect – an orange filter (blue blocker) caused the sky to appear very dark, almost black – to enhance the contrast of clouds and snow against the blue sky. These filter effects can be set in many digital cameras and the filtering will be done by the computer in the camera. The most complex translation with the ultimate level of control in the translation is post processing of the colored file outside of the camera, where each individual color can be brightened or darkened at the will of the photographer-artist. Page 30 • March 2020 The Canal Walk Newsletter To Advertise Call AOT Publications 732-474-0107 Home Hints Bumper Sticker It’s the hot water heater again! Over Thanksgiving we had lots of company, so that meant several showers every day, running the dishwasher every night and lots of laundry. I became aware that each time the water heater cycled on I heard lots of gurgling and thumping sounds. I asked my friend, Dr. Google, what the cause was and he quickly told me that we had a lot of sediment in the tank and the sounds were the sediment heating up before the water and that the solution was to flush the tank. The plumber came a few days later, flushed the tank several times and showed me the grainy white stuff that came out. He said that he was surprised to see so much stuff come out of the tank because we don’t have hard water. He also replaced the emergency relief valve and showed me that it was so corroded from the sediment that in an emergency, it might not have worked. The heater is only six years old, and I’m surprised that this problem occurred, especially since some heaters in the community have lasted over thirteen years. The plumber also replaced the shut off valve in the line that feeds cold water to the heater. The replacement faucet is called a gate valve which has a handle instead of the kind that takes many turns to open or close. We have already had these installed on the shutoffs for our sprinkler and outside faucet lines. Remember the goal is to replace the heater before it fails, but buy a water alarm anyway and put it on the floor next to the heater. Buy two and put one alongside the washing machine as well.
