These tasks include:

• Shot listing the previous day’s evening news from Channel 10 Melbourne, Channel 9 Melbourne and Channel 7 Melbourne.

Reality TV Show Winner. (Malaysian version of the Apprentice) (February 2007- April 2007)

Job Description:

I was one of the 10 graduates selected among thousands of young hopeful Malaysian graduates, who had auditioned to take part in a Reality TV Show. The show was called “Please Give Me A Job!”. The concept of the show was somewhat similar to the concept of the popular American reality TV show, The Apprentice.

However, unlike The Apprentice, which removes its contestants’ candidacy for a potential job, “Please Give Me a Job!” "eliminates" its contestants by sealing job opportunities for them at the end of each episode. However, there were only 8 job oppurtunites with 10 contestants. Thus making the 2 remaining contestants, “losers” of the show for not being able to secure a job. To make things a little more interesting, the “best job” was to be offered at the final episode/task of the show.

Throughout the show, I took on various challenges from companies of different media and public relations related industries. I managed to gain a lot of knowledge and experience in the media and communications industry as I was subjected to wide range of job responsibilities as I carried out each given assignment. As this was a reality TV show, the cameras were on me and the other contestants for about 16 hours a day. Among the projects that I carried out were:

1) I had to create a sales promo for Malaysia’s fastest growing radio network, FlyFm. My sales promo was recorded by its breakfast shift announcers, Phat Fabes and Ben.

2) I had to come up with an advertising campaign for one of Malaysia’s leading advertising company, MindShare.

3) I was given the task of creating an AIDS awareness video clip for Red Communications, a television programme and film production company.

4) I had to execute a promotional plan for Andaman Group, a huge real estate company. I was given the task to promote Andaman’s upcoming residential- cum-commercial construction project.

5) In conjunction with International Women’s Day, I had to manage an event that was staged in the Summit USJ Shopping Mall. I was appointed EMCEE for the event.

6) I had to organize a press conference for one of Malaysia’s leading television stations, 8TV. The press conference that I organized was to promote its latest television screening of Malaysia. The show highlights local Malaysian fashion designers and their creations.

7) I was given the task to carry out a promotional campaign for one of Malaysia’s top colleges, SEGI College. The promotional campaign that I carried out was to promote SEGI College’s new flagship campus in an upcoming metropolitan city, Kota Damansara.

8) I had to manage an event where there were more than 6000 guests consisting of royalty, dignitaries, celebrities and VIPs organized by Royal Selangor Pewter to promote its latest Spring Pewter collection. I was also in charge of the selling and promoting of their latest Spring Pewter collection.

Please Give Me A Job! was shown every Sunday for 4 months at 10.30pm on channel 8TV (a local Malaysian TV channel).

Television Host – “Goolis Gameshow” (July 2006- December 2006)

Job description:

I hosted a live one hour interactive TV game show at FINAS (Malaysian National Film Development Corporation) where contestants were tested on their general knowledge, understanding of current world issues, knowledge of sports and so forth. The winners of each episode were given a cash prize. I hosted the show in English and in Bahasa Malaysia. Goolis was shown everyday at 10am for 6 months on 8TV.

Assistant Producer – “Goolis Gameshow” (Jan 2006- June 2006)

Job description:

I had countless responsibilities as the Assistant Producer. I recruited contestants for the show, set the questions that were used on the show, decorated the studio with various props for each episode, contributed many ideas on the dynamics of the show (most of my ideas were utilized) and assisted the director as well as the producer when the show was being edited (post production). Besides that, I had to write out the scripts for the host of the game show. I was also in charge of coming up with a ‘time and call sheet’ for every episode of the show to ensure that the entire production team of 24 people were on the right track and that everyone (production crew and contestants) were always on time. Goolis was shown everyday at 10am for 6 months on 8TV.

Other media related jobs:

Ø I’ve contributed several articles to the New Straits Times, Malaysia’s oldest and leading newspaper.

Ø I’ve contributed numerous articles, months of extensive interviews and research to the published hardcopy book entitled ‘Leprosy – A Malaysian Success Story”.

Ø I’ve done voice-overs for both TV and radio. In addition to that, I have also done emceeing stints in both English and Bahasa Malaysia.
