Brown Vs. Silva FOX SPORTS 1 FEATURES EXCITING WELTERWEIGHT BOUT AT ® UFC FIGHT NIGHT: BROWN VS. SILVA Cruz and Bisping Serve as Analysts for UFC FIGHT NIGHT on FOX Sports 1 LOS ANGELES – The Ultimate Fighting Championship® (UFC®) returns to Cincinnati for the first time since 2007 with UFC® FIGHT NIGHT: BROWN VS. SILVA live on FOX Sports 1 and FOX Deportes on Saturday, May 10 (10:00 PM ET), headlined by an exciting five-round welterweight matchup between No. 7-ranked Matt “The Immortal” Brown (20-11, fighting out of Columbus, Ohio) versus No. 14-ranked Erick Silva (16-4, 1NC, fighting out of Vila Velha, Espirito Santo, Brazil). In the evening’s main event, Brown puts his six-fight win streak on the line against the Brazilian jiu-jitsu ace, Silva, in a bout that UFC on FOX analyst Kenny Florian says features two dangerous finishers. “Matt Brown is both a finisher and has a grinding ability, which is tough for a lot of people to deal with because he has both those abilities to win and can use either of them early or late in a fight. For Erick, he has now taken his training to another level. He’s always been dangerous, but with his new approach, a lot of people have to consider him as a future contender. This is an exciting matchup between two fighters who always deliver.” Florian and Jon Anik call all the fights live from U.S. Bank Arena. Also on the three-hour UFC FIGHT NIGHT main card on FOX Sports 1, former Golden Gloves boxer and current No. 12-ranked contender Costas Philippou (12-4, 1NC, fighting out of Long Island, N.Y.) returns to action against flashy Lorenz Larkin (14-2, 1NC, fighting out of Riverside, Calif.) in a clash of middleweight strikers. • The Effects of Sexualized and Violent Presentations of Women in Combat Sport
Journal of Sport Management, 2017, 31, 533-545 https://doi.org/10.1123/jsm.2016-0333 © 2017 Human Kinetics, Inc. ARTICLE The Effects of Sexualized and Violent Presentations of Women in Combat Sport T. Christopher Greenwell University of Louisville Jason M. Simmons University of Cincinnati Meg Hancock and Megan Shreffler University of Louisville Dustin Thorn Xavier University This study utilizes an experimental design to investigate how different presentations (sexualized, neutral, and combat) of female athletes competing in a combat sport such as mixed martial arts, a sport defying traditional gender norms, affect consumers’ attitudes toward the advertising, event, and athlete brand. When the female athlete in the advertisement was in a sexualized presentation, male subjects reported higher attitudes toward the advertisement and the event than the female subjects. Female respondents preferred neutral presentations significantly more than the male respondents. On the one hand, both male and female respondents felt the fighter in the sexualized ad was more attractive and charming than the fighter in the neutral or combat ads and more personable than the fighter in the combat ads. On the other hand, respondents felt the fighter in the sexualized ad was less talented, less successful, and less tough than the fighter in the neutral or combat ads and less wholesome than the fighter in the neutral ad.
