    Admissions Policy for Accrington Academy Preamble: 1. This document sets out the proposed arrangements for Accrington Academy, throughout this document referred to as “the Academy”. These arrangements are without prejudice to the provisions of Annex B to the Master Agreement. The document forms an annex to the Supplemental Agreement between United Learning Trust (‘ULT’) and the Secretary of State. References in this document to “parents” include guardians and carers. 2.     Game of Our Own Case Study: Accrington Academy July 2019 7 Background Accrington Academy is a mixed 11-18 Academy with approximately 1,380 students, located in Accrington, Lancashire. The school prides itself on having a vibrant, happy and successful environment, delivering the highest standard of education and nurturing individual’s talent and skills. Accrington Academy has extremely well-designed outside facilities within the spacious grounds, having football/rugby/hockey pitches as well as an all-weather 3G pitch and 4 netball courts. Accrington Academy are a newly recruited school within the Game of Our Own programme, and have been involved since the start of the 2018/19 academic year. Youth Sport Trust conducted a case study visit at Accrington Academy on Wednesday 3rd July 2019, hosted by their PE teacher, Sarah Lawson. The case study visit aimed to establish the value of Game of Our Own since Accrington had begun the programme, and highlight any short term and longer-term outcomes since its inception. Evaluation activities included observation of girls’ after-school football session, a focus group with Football Activators and attendees at the football session, and an interview with Miss Lawson as the lead PE teacher for girls’ football. Current Activities Ten “Acc-tivators” have been recruited to take part in the Game of Our Own programme across Year 7-9, all of whom attend the weekly football session led by Accrington Stanley Ladies coach, Elle Kayley. Since their programme training at the start of the year, the Activators have worked hard to think of creative ways to invite more girls to attend the sessions, including: • “Bring your friend to football” • Easter celebrations • Ticket invitations • “Acc-tivators” Instagram account which logs and promotes their weekly football activities.

    The Lancashire Colleges Supporting Further and Higher Education in Lancashire’s Colleges TLC does this through: REPUTATION AND INFLUENCE Maintaining a high profile for The Lancashire Colleges as a trusted partner with key decision-makers at local and national levels: • Providing members with a collective and authoritative voice and therefore greater influence. • Promoting recognition that the unit of funding for FE across all types of provision has to be sufficient if colleges are to remain viable. • Promoting members’ achievements in delivering sixth form, further, technical, professional and higher education to grow the skills and economy of Lancashire. • Supporting members to maintain and grow market share in traditional and core activity areas. • Providing a trusted single point of contact for the colleges of Lancashire. CHARM It’s been a busy few months for us here at Ynot Aspire with two big events, CHARM and our Inaugural Ball, Read more…. both of which were a huge success. We’ve also run our Know Fear and Know Stigma workshops at The Hollins and Accrington Academy and took part in World at Work Day at The Hollins, helping to raise the aspirations of students and encouraging them to reach for the stars! Paula is still very busy training up our Mental Health Champions and they are doing some great work in their respective schools. We sadly said goodbye to Jade, our Youth Homeless Worker, who has gone on to work for Young Addac- Inaugural Ball tion. We would like to say a big thank you to her for the fantastic work she did for us and wish her every suc- cess in the future. That means that we’ve got a new member of the team, Catherine. You can find out more Read more…. about her in the newsletter. May has been quite a month for me personally, turning 50!! (I know, right!) You’ll be surprised to learn that I did this very quietly, with the minimum of fuss. Ha ha, only joking! First I lived it up in style, spending my birthday dancing the day away at Ocean Beach Ibiza with close family and friends then an 80’s themed party on my return.
