The task he started was a monumental one and his research will always be greatly appreciated. The book continues to be a work in progress because new schools open and close each year and, thankfully, new information about our schools is discovered. I am currently enjoying this path of discovery and hope to share more of my research through the Q. You are encouraged to review the lists and provide any additional information to the ASOHS office or the current historian. I know there are many of you who can provide information about the opening or closing years for schools that we are missing. Please help us accurately complete this list. I will update this book each year with your help and further research. In addition to the list of overseas schools, a very incomplete list of current and past stateside schools (DDESS) is included. Also there is a list of the current DoDEA schools with demographic information. Thank you to Frank O’Gara for providing this information. Rebecca E. In March 2003, Lindis Percy entered the base in a nonviolent protest against the war, which she believed to be immoral and contrary to international law. When apprehended by US security officers, she was thrown to the ground and restrained using handcuffs and leg shackles while a woman US military police officer conducted a full body search in a degrading way. Lindis was then forced to lie face-down in a truck to be taken into detention while British police were called to make an arrest. She was known to those detaining her, in the words of one, as ‘a peaceful, nonviolent Quaker’ and had not resisted their intervention. Lindis was charged with Aggravated Trespass (Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994), which applies to a person who trespasses with intent to intimidate, obstruct or disrupt a lawful activity.2 She was refused bail, remanded in custody for one week at Holloway Prison and then granted bail with strict conditions.

  • A Re-Write of the World War Two Roll of Honour I Spent Much of the Lockdown Last Year Researching and Re-Writing the World War Two Roll of Honour
A Re-write of the World War Two Roll of Honour I spent much of the lockdown last year researching and re-writing the World War Two Roll of Honour. The reason for a revision 55 years after the original publication is that the Roll of Honour published in 1965, although a wonderful document which paints an affectionate picture of those 161 boys who gave their lived in the Second World War, is sadly short of specific detail of where they served and how they came to lose their lives, although this is not surprising given the shortage of such information at that time. I have updated and extended this moving record, using the extensive information now available on the internet, but also with the assistance of several distinguished and able helpers. The task is complete and the results will, I hope, be available for publication in 2021. There are now 163 names as I have discovered the deaths of Edward Crosse and Cecil Thomas and added their names to the Roll of Honour. All former day boys who joined before 1936 are described as Home Boarders because that name was used until Stanley Powell’s gift of his house to the College. Finally, the fact that the number of names on the Roll of Honour is less than in the First World War cannot pass unnoticed. Perhaps there is significance in the fact that, of all OEs killed in the 1939-45 war, nearly forty per cent were aircrew. Certain it is that our record in the air, for all its grievous cost, gives much cause for pride in the eminence attained and the awards gained by Old Eastbournians.

  • Base Structure Report Provides an Understanding of the Scope and Purpose of Dod Base Structure As It Was at the End of Fiscal Year 1999 (September 30, 1999)
DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE BASEBASE STRUCTURESTRUCTURE REPORTREPORT FISCAL YEAR 1999 OFFICE OF THE DEPUTY UNDER SECRETARY OF DEFENSE (INSTALLATIONS) DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE BASE STRUCTURE I. INTRODUCTION Military installations are vital to national security. The real investment this Nation makes in its defense base structure and facilities is an investment in its military and civilian people – an investment that enhances the working and living conditions for our people which is repaid in the form of improved pride, greater performance and enhanced combat readiness. Defense installations and properties range widely in assigned personnel and the amount of property controlled: from unmanned navigational aids of less than one-half acre to the Navy’s installations at Norfolk, Virginia, with over 110,000 employees, and the Army’s White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico which encompasses over 3.6 million acres. II. CONTENT AND ORGANIZATION This Base Structure Report provides an understanding of the scope and purpose of DoD base structure as it was at the end of Fiscal Year 1999 (September 30, 1999). The report furnishes information on each installation, for the purpose of this report defined as a site owning more than ten acres AND having a Plant Replacement Value greater than one million dollars. Since the DoD owns few acres outside the United States or its territories, the criteria for inclusion of overseas installations was ten acres OR a Plant Replacement Value exceeding one million dollars. The report is organized by Military Service and then by state within the Service list. The report includes the installation location, the name of the nearest city, zip code, the number of buildings owned and leased, total acres occupied by the Services and the total acres owned, the authorized number of military, civilian, and “other” personnel.
