How Three Rivers District Council makes decisions

How does the system of local government work in Three Rivers?

The Council, attended by all 39 Councillors, meets five times a year and makes critical decisions such as setting the Budget and appointing a Council Leader.

The Policy and Resources Committee (in accordance with the Council Constitution) is chaired by the Leader of the Council with automatic membership on the Committee by the 7 Lead Members.

In addition, three Service Committees covering areas such as sustainable development, planning and transport; leisure, wellbeing and health and general public services and community safety will make decisions within their Committee remit.

If you have a concern or suggestion about your local area, contact your Ward Councillor as your representative on the District Council (full contact details are in this document).

For a list of public meetings you can attend, look on the District Council notice boards or visit our website and click on Council Meetings http://www.threerivers.gov.uk/listing/council-meetings or phone us on 01923 776611.

District Council elections will next be held in May 2018.

The election of County Councillors took place on 4 May 2017. Elections of County Councillors take place every four years. Therefore, the next County Council election will take place in May 2021.
