How Three Rivers District Council makes decisions

How does the system of local government work in Three Rivers?

The Council, attended by all 48 Councillors, meets five times a year and makes critical decisions such as setting the Budget and appointing a Council Leader.

The Executive Committee, made up of 10 Councillors and led by the Leader of the Council, makes most of the decisions other than those that go to Council.

In addition, Policy and Scrutiny Committees covering areas such as leisure, refuse and recycling, assist the Executive by making recommendations for changes or additions to District Council policy.

District Council elections were held on 3 May 2012.

The election of County Councillors took place on 2 May 2013. Elections of County Councillors take place every four years. Therefore, the next County Council election will take place in 2017.
