College Dhaliara, Kangra, India Abstract The tourism industry of India is economically important and grows rapidly. The World Travel & Tourism Council calculated that tourism generated INR6.4 trillion or 6.6% of the nation’s GDP in 2012. It supported 39.5 million jobs, 7.7% of its total employment. The sector is predicted to grow at an average annual rate of 7.9% from 2013 to 2023. This gives India the third rank among countries with the fastest growing tourism industries over the next decade. India has a large medical tourism sector which is expected to grow at an estimated rate of 30% annually to reach about 95 billion by 2015. This paper discusses how India is emerging as a popular tourist destination in the world, driven by the focus on innovation and creating value for tourists. It aimed change the attitude and behavior toward foreign tourists by stressing on the aspect that a guest has been held in high esteem in India since ancient times. It also examines the impact of India’s economic growth on tourism, Contributors to economic growth, Role of Tourism industry in India’s GDP, Foreign versus Domestic Tourists. The paper also explores that there has been a tremendous growth in tourism in India because of the policies of the government and support from all levels. -

This encourages international connections, markets expanding, broad-based jobs and income production, as a source and effect of economic growth. The tourist sector is a major contributor to many nations 'gross national products. This is among the world's fastest-growing sectors. Today, a commonly known trend is the promotion of vacation attractions and the travel infrastructure. Investment in tourist infrastructure boosts economic development, catalyses income and job generation, which in turn contributes to more development in tourism demand, which induces a corresponding investment cycle within a virtuous ring.Expenditure on tourism produces numerous impacts in the value chain, with robust outreach. In addition to the need for a range of goods and services, tourism also provides opportunities for the relevant industries.The Tourism Growth Policy itself can be an instrument for positive economic and social change.Tourism supports social harmony and connection with the group. It encourages the restoration and conservation by adding importance to history, heritage, climate, atmosphere and ecology.In this paper various consideration points of touring have been mentioned. Tourism industry occupies a unique place as it is one of the major emerging segments of our economy. It brings huge foreign exchange and generates employment. This leads to infrastructure development. In the era of globalisation, the travel and tourism activities have increased significantly. United Nation’s World Tourism Organisation has forecasted that international tourism would continue to grow at an average annual rate of 4%. India has made a unique place on world tourism map because of its rich natural and cultural diversity. In India, tourism is the third largest industry in which about ten million people are employed directly or indirectly. The present chapter is an attempt to describe the growth and patterns of domestic as well as international tourism in India. Film tourism sector has seen tremendous growth in the past few years. It represents a gateway to new and more intense ways of experiencing destinations. At the same time, it creates the potential for new communities by way of an exchange of insights, knowledge and experience among the tourists themselves. Films play a significant role in the promotion of tourism in various countries and different states of India. A film tourist is attracted by the first-hand experience of the location captured on the silver screen. Not only is film tourism an excellent vehicle for destination marketing, it also presents new product development opportunities, such as location tours, film museums, exhibitions and the theme of existing tourist attractions with a film connection. This report focusses on the concept of film tourism and the various initiatives taken by both the state and central government of India for boosting film induced tourism through their respective film production policies. This thesis focuses on two sites, Sarnath and Bodhgaya, which have been subject to contestations that precede the nation-state’s efforts at gaining economic revenue. The Hindu-Buddhist dispute over the Buddha’s image, the Saivite occupation of the Mahabodhi Temple in Bodhgaya, and Anagarika Dharmapala’s attempts at reclaiming several Buddhist sites in India have led to conflicting views, motivations, and interpretations. For the purpose of this thesis, I identify the primary national and transnational stakeholders who have contributed to differing views about the sacred geography of Buddhism in India. -

It regarded as a medium of employment generation Tourism reduces the trade deficit by generating the foreign exchange earnings from foreign tourist arrivals FTAs. It sometimes finances the import of capital goods necessary for the growth of manufacturing sectors in the economy. In many countries, foreign currency receipts from tourism exceeded currency receipts from all other sectors together. Over the past decades, the importance of the tourism sector for the economy has been steadily increasing. At International level it is recognized as a major contributor for long-run economic growth. It plays an important role in spurring investments in infrastructure and stimulates other industries by direct, indirect and induced effects. Tourism in India has shown a phenomenal growth in the past decade.
