Chessiecon 2018 November 23-25, 2018 Red Lion Inn North Baltimore (Formerly Radisson North Baltimore) Guest of Honor: Jo Walton Jo Walton has published thirteen novels, most recently Necessity. She has also published three poetry collections, an essay collection, and Starlings a collection of short stories. She won the John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer in 2002, the World Fantasy Award for Tooth and Claw in 2004, the Hugo and Nebula awards for Among Others in 2012, and in 2014 both the Tiptree Award for My Real Children and the Locus Non Fiction award for What Makes This Book So Great. She comes from Wales but lives in Montreal where the food and books are much better. She gets bored easily so she tends to write books that are different from each other. Her work includes two alternate histories, a trilogy about gods and robots setting up Plato's Republic, an urban fantasy, a domestic fantasy, a sentimental Victorian novel where all the characters are dragons, and she is presently working on a book she describes as "Savonarola Groundhog Day". She also reads a lot, enjoys travel, theatre, talking about books, and eating great food. She plans to live to be ninety-nine and write a book every year. Music GoH: Dr. Mary Crowell Special Guest: Katherine Kurtz Dr. Crowell is active in several bands, Katherine Kurtz graduated from but primarily gigs with Play It With the University of Miami and, later, Moxie and Three Weird Sisters, UCLA. While establishing her releasing respectively Play It With Moxie, Live! (2012) and, Third Thyme’s writing career, she worked as an the Charm (2012). Both bands were instructional designer for the Los created in the greater Atlanta area of Angeles Police Academy.
