Author of the best-selling Teen Nonfiction book, WOMEN OF STEEL AND STONE: 22 Inspirational Architects, Engineers, and Landscape Designers. Speaking at book events around the country, Anna's presentations, panels, and workshops have focused on writing nonfiction for kids, women’s history, and incorporating STEM in the schools. Anna studied Industrial Design at the University of Cincinnati and received her BFA in Product Design from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. She earned a B.S. in architectural engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology and a M.S. in Structural Engineering from the University of Minnesota. Homa Ghaemi, SE, PE Chief Executive Officer and Board of Directors Klein and Hoffman 312.251.1934 [email protected] Homa Ghaemi leads the structural restoration/rehabilitation group, and has oversight of the staff and restoration projects in the Chicago and Philadelphia offices. Ms. Ghaemi has over 30 years of experience in structural steel design, concrete design and repairs, analysis and project management. She has performed projects in the adaptive reuse and restoration arena, as well as new construction in the hospitality, education, healthcare, telecommunications, US Air Force, and food manufacturing industries. Mary Ann B. Lukowicz, LEED AP Project Executive Power Construction Company, LLC Mary Ann Lukowicz has been working in the construction industry for over 30 years, concentrating in the healthcare and education sectors. A proactive communicator, Mary Ann brings a passion for planning ahead to avoid any surprises. These skills help her build solid relationships with owners, architects, subcontractors, and her project team. Some of Mary Ann’s Clients include: Advocate Healthcare, Centegra Health Systems, St. Alexius Medical Center (AMITA Health), College of Dupage, GEMS Americas, and Academy of Global Citizenship. Mary Ann holds a BS Civil Engineering from Bradley University, Peoria, IL and is a Member of the Healthcare Symposium Advisory Board. Rebekah Scheinfeld, JD, MBA Commissioner Chicago Department of Transportation Rebekah Scheinfeld was appointed Commissioner of the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) by Mayor Rahm Emanuel in January 2014 with the direction to continue the critical work of making sure Chicago has a strong, vibrant, accessible transportation network that provides a foundation for a thriving economy in the 21st Century. Rebekah has a broad background in urban development issues, working in both the public and private sectors and in a variety of policy areas including transportation, infrastructure investment, housing, open space, and real estate. She holds a BA in Urban Studies from Brown University and both her JD and MBA from Northwestern University. Her background combines architecture, historic preservation, and materials engineering. From the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign she holds a B.S. in Architectural Studies, an M.Arch with a focus on Historic Preservation, and an M.S. in Civil Engineering Building Materials with a focus on concrete and cement chemistry. Ms. Woods is on the Board for the APTI, a past Director for the ICRI Chicago chapter, on the Easement Committee for Landmarks Illinois, and is an instructor in the Historic Preservation Building Diagnostics class at the SAIC. Her work includes historic material matching, consulting, and archival research. Elisabeth holds a degree in historic preservation from the Art Institute of Chicago. She had previously been the organization’s Director of Chicago Programs from 1994-1997. From 1998-2002, she worked as a project manager for the Detroit office of Hines Interests, overseeing the urban planning components of General Motors’ renovation of the Renaissance Center as its new corporate headquarters. She worked previously for the Midwest Office of the National Trust for Historic Preservation and the Architecture Department of the Chicago History Museum. Lisa received a BA in Art and Architectural History from UCLA and an MS in Historic Preservation from the University of Pennsylvania. Her professional and scientific interests are focused on investigating, understanding, and preserving historic building systems and their materials. She has designed, tested and implemented new methods of field study to enhance documentation of structures, analysis of materials, assessments and specifications. Her work incorporates upgraded energy efficiency and other current technologies into historic structures, to lead the way to sustainable building and reuse for the future. Over the years she has worked in the private, public, and nonprofit sectors on a variety of projects from gut rehabs to restorations to new construction. She has expertise in navigating historic preservation projects through local government processes and revitalizing communities in blighted areas of the city.
