Malcolm Holzman, FAIA

BIO Malcolm Holzman’s buildings, described in a national publication as having a “brash beauty,” are acknowledged for their evocative nature, technical vision, and singular character. He has completed commissions in 25 states, which represent some of this country’s most notable architecture and, over the course of his professional career, has completed more than 125 building projects. His work shows a diversity of design solutions, refl ecting a wide range of building types and the application of materials unique to the region of each project, winning numerous awards for this distinguished body of work.

Mr. Holzman’s advocacy of architectural excellence extends to education and publications. He has held ten endowed chairs at schools of architecture and directed specialized design studios around the country. In recognition of his advancement of architecture and urbanism, he received the Pratt Institute Distinguished Alumni Award (1990). In 2001, he received the Gold Medal from Tau Sigma Delta, the honor society of architecture and the allied arts and was the fi rst recipient of the James Daniel Bybee Prize (2001) from the Building Stone Institute.

A prodigious writer, Mr. Holzman was the American contributor to the Art Book and a member of the editorial board of the Mac Journal of the Mackintosh School of Architecture in Glasgow, Scotland, in addition to authoring numerous articles for various national publications. Certifi ed He founded Hardy Holzman Pfeiffer Associates in 1967. In 2004, with Pratt Institute, Bachelor of Architecture Douglas Moss, AIA, LEED AP he established Holzman Moss Architecture, LLP, Registered Architect in 26 states and in 2010 he established Holzman Moss Bottino Architecture.
