23 June 2020 31 MORE DORMITORIES DECLARED CLEARED OF COVID-19 31 more dormitories have been cleared of COVID-19 with effect from today. These comprise 27 Factory-Converted Dormitories and four Construction Temporary Quarters. In addition, four Blocks for Recovered Workers (BRWs) in three Purpose-Built Dormitories (PBD) have been cleared (see Annex A). 2 These residences house about 3,700 residents. This takes the total number to 163 dormitories and 18 BRWs in 11 PBDs cleared of COVID-19. As of 22 June 2020, about 79,000 migrant workers have been cleared of COVID-19, including those residing in government-provided accommodation facilities. 3 Dormitory operators, employers and migrant workers have to make the necessary preparations to complete all the three required steps1 before the workers can resume work. As of 22 June 2020, 106 out of 163 dormitories and 8 out of the 18 BRWs have completed these steps. Some of the 17,000 residents in these dormitories have resumed working. 4 The Forward Assurance and Support Teams (FAST) are working closely with dormitory operators, employers and migrant workers to complete all the necessary steps and clear the remaining dormitories. Employers can refer to the MOM website for the latest list of cleared dormitories and dormitories to be cleared in the coming weeks. 5 As we continue to gradually resume work, we urge all dormitory operators, employers and workers to remain vigilant and ensure that the Safe Working and Safe Living measures are rigorously followed. <End of Release> For media queries, please contact Jon Nio Assistant Director, Corporate Communications Department DID: 6499 6008 Email: [email protected] 1 Refer to MOM’s press release on 10 June 2020 for the details of the three steps.
