Follow N10 (North) to Remich. -From France : Autoroute A4, then A31 (Luxembourg), before Thionville exit A31 towards Trèves (Trier), follow Sierck-les-Bains, Schengen, and N10 to Remich. Field-trip participants will be able to leave their cars at Remich during the excursion, and to get them back on Friday, 7th in the evening (bus stop at Remich). Programme of the meeting An ice-breaking party will be organized in the evening of September, 2nd. The two-days meeting (3rd-4th) will take place at the Institut Viti-Vinicole (Wine Institute). We will not leave Remich before having tasted the local wine and a gala dinner, to be combined with a cruise along the Moselle River. Meeting registration The meeting registration fees include - the ice-breaking party on September 2; - the coffee breaks during the meeting (September 3 and 4); -the lunches and dinner on September 3 and 4 (including gala dinner on September 4) -a local wine tasting on September 3 - the abstract book (for abstract submission : see end of the circular) For registration please use the registration form, also available at : http://www.geology.lu/flag2012 Field trip (September 5th to 7th) The following three days excursions (5th to 7th) will provide the opportunity to explore the Moselle catchment in Luxembourg but also in neighboring France and Germany. The first day will lead us from Luxembourg (relationships between slope and river dynamics, fluvial geoarchaeology) to France, where we will visit the site of the Upper Moselle capture already studied by Davis at the end of the 19th century. The relationships between fluvial evolution and karstic landforms will in particular be exposed. After a night in the famous French city of Nancy, the second day will be devoted to the Sarre valley. The Sarre River (Saar in German) is a major right-bank tributary of the Moselle, which exposes various landforms and terrace deposits in beautiful vineyard landscapes. We plan to stay overnight near Trier, which is the oldest city of Germany, founded during the last century BC. During the third day we will visit the touristic German Moselle valley downstream from Trier, to focus on the long-term fluvial response to tectonic forcing and to climate change. After a stop in Remich for participants coming by car, the excursion will finish in Luxembourg City in the evening. Field trip registration The field trip registration fees include - the bus - the lunches on September 5, 6 and 7 - the dinners on September 5 and 6 - the accommodation on September 5 (Nancy) and 6 (Trier) For practical reasons the number of participants will be limited, so register as soon as possible! Abstract submission We intend to propose oral and poster presentations dealing with any of the topics covered by the FLAG, such as: fluvial response to internal or external forcings, human-rivers relationships during the Pleistocene and the Holocene, methodological advances in fluvial geochronology, sediment budget, modelling etc. Contributions dealing either with European or with non-European rivers are welcome. All the presentations will be in English. -1 page maximum -English title, Arial bold italics, 12 pt centred. -Authors: Arial bold 10 pt centred e.g. Stéphane Cordier (1), Robert Colbach (2)…. & Dominique Harmand (3) (1) Institution (name and address), e-mail address for the first author, Arial 8 pt. (2) Institution (name and address), Arial 8 pt. -English abstract, Arial 10 pt and single spacing. Key references can be included, with the format Arial 8 pt and single spacing: Vandenberghe J., Cordier S., Bridgland D.R., 2010 – Extrinsic and intrinsic forcing on fluvial development: understanding natural and anthropogenic influences. Proceedings of the Geologists’ Association, 121, 107-112. New deadline for Abstract submission: May, the 30th. Abstract Form must be sent by e-mail to : [email protected] Subject : FLAG 2012 Abstract Please do not forget to indicate if you wish to submit for an oral communication or for a poster. Presentations with no registered author on June, 30 will be cancelled. Special Issue in Boreas A special issue is planned for papers presented during the FLAG 2012. Guest editors will be Dominique Harmand, David Bridgland, Jef Vandenberghe and Stephane Cordier. We have an agreement of principle for a publication in the journal ‘Boreas’, which is a reference journal for Quaternary research. More information about the journal can be found at : http://www.wiley.com/bw/journal.asp?ref=0300-9483 The proposed theme for the special issue is: “Fluvial landscapes as a reflection of long-term environmental changes” Up to now we received ca 20 proposals for contribution. We remind the authors that the submitted manuscripts must have a international relevance/importance, be designed as stand- alone papers, and that the special issue will follow the normal peer-reviewing procedure of Boreas. Deadlines - May, 30: Abstract submission - May, 30: Early birds registration - June, 5: Information concerning the acceptance of abstracts - June, 30: Registration for communication presenters - July, 31: End of registration Supported by the National Research Fund, Luxembourg Looking forward to seeing you in Luxembourg! .
