As elucidating epistemological framework in each theory helps us to clarify dark angles of that theory, this paper focuses on the epistemological approach conveyed from Avicenna’s philosophy to Sadra’s transcendent theosophy. Under the influence of Avicenna’s and Mulla Sadra’s different ontological approaches, i.e., essentialism and existentialism, their epistemic theories are transformed from the theory of abstraction into the unity of the known-object and the knower-subject. The required data for this study have been collected mainly through library research from secondary and primary sources. Library research is a method by means this research focuses on relevant sources in three languages: original works such as books, data bases, theses and articles which are mostly in Arabic and some are in English and Persian. The two scholars relying on a common base stone, realism, present two different theories to interpret the relationship between the human mind and the external world. As the border between the mind and external world determines the degree of realism in each theory, the paper examines their epistemic theories, which explain the relationship between the mind as the knower-subject and the external world as the known object. -

Chittick, State University of New York, USA Abstract Mulla Sadra's primary philosophical project is to map out the path of achieving the soul's perfection. His several well‐known contributions to the philosophical vocabulary, such as the "systematic Ambiguity" (tashkik) of existence and "substantial motion," were all developed to explain how the soul enters into this world through corporealization and departs from it by way spiritualization. His remarkably detailed investigations of the modalities of afterworldly experience simply illustrate his desire to explain the full range of possibilities that are open to the human soul. In order to grasp the role of perception in his overall project, it is necessary to understand the end toward which perception is directed and the nature of its final fruition. The soul perceives by nature, so much so that perception enters into its very definition. In and of themselves, however, the varieties of perception possessed by the animal soul do not suffice for the achievement of human perfection, though perception remains an essential attribute of the soul. -

Kajian Islam Filosofis: Al-Hikmah Al-Muta’aliyah Karya Mulla Shadra Oleh : Aina Salsabila, M. Pd.I Email: [email protected] Abstract Mulla Sadra appeared with originality awesome when philosophy Muslims often accused of simply followed by philosophy of Plato and Aristotle. His philosophy gave birth to its own flow: al- Hikmah Al-Muta'aliyah. The flow is the object of the intellect of the philosophers skrutinisasi both Western and Eastern. A Magnum Opus inestimable contribution to the Islamic intellectual treasures. Characteristics of al-Hikmah al-Muta'aliyah which is the synthesis is the result of the combination and harmonization of the teachings of revelation, the sayings of the Imams, truths obtained through appreciation of spiritual illumination and intellectual, and the demands of logic and evidence rationally. Synthesis and harmonization is aimed at integrating the knowledge acquired through the means of Sufism or 'irfan, illuminationism or isyraqiyyah, rational philosophy or identical with the Peripatetic or masysya'iyyah and religious sciences in the narrow sense, including kalam. Thus, the appearance can not be separated from, and should be viewed in the context of Islamic schools of thought that preceded it. This paper aims to describe the focus of the discussion about the biography of Mulla Shadra, the works and the sources of his thinking, understanding and concept of al- Hikmah al-Muta'aliyah, the philosophy of being Mulla Shadra, analysis of building philosophy and the influence of his mind to the philosophers afterwards. Sophia Perennis Vol. 1, Number 1, 2009 Iranian Institute of Philosophy Tehran/Iran Muslim Intellectuals and the Perennial Philosophy in the Twentieth Century1 Zachary Markwith Abstract: This paper will examine how Muslim intellectuals, as a result of their attachment to the doctrine of Divine Unity (tawh¤īd), the Quran, Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad, and the doctrines and methods of Sufism, were largely responsible for the restating of the perennial philosophy in the West in the twentieth century. The article consists of four sections: an introduction to the term 'philosophia perennis'; the place of the perennial philosophy in the Qur'an and Sunnah; the perennial philosophy and the Islamic intellectual Tradition; the lives, writings, and intellectual contributions of the five most important Muslim perennialists of the twentieth century, namely, Guénon, Schuon, Burckhardt, Lings, and Nasr The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate the inextricable link between Islam and the perennial philosophy in the twentieth century, while defending the role that orthodoxy and orthopraxy play in any authentic expression of the perennial philosophy. for a single reason, only a single disabled issue is issued. Although many sages and philosophers have accepted this rule, some ٢٨٢ theologians have denied it. Determining the channel of this rule is considered as one of the necessary issues around it. Considering the words and phrases of Mulla Sadra, it can be said that he has taken a double position on this important issue. In some of his expressions, he spoke of attributing this rule to the Almighty, and in others, he considered the channel of this rule to include God, in such a way that he even used this rule as a proof of reason. The existence of such phrases in the words and speeches of Mulla Sadra has caused criticism from Hakim Sabzevari in this regard. He makes three criticisms of Mulla Sadra's view and concludes that this rule is not specific to the Supreme Being and includes other unrealistic units. Scholars of Islam / Muslims Hossein Nasr Hossein Nasr (born April 7, 1933) is an Iranian University Professor of Islamic Studies at George Washington University, USA and a prominent Islamic philosopher. He is the author of many scholarly books and articles. Nasr is a Muslim Persian philosopher and renowned scholar of comparative religion, a lifelong student and follower of Frithj of Schuon, and writes in the fields of Islamic esoterism, Sufism, philosophy of science, and metaphysics. Nasr was the first Muslim to deliver the prestigious Gifford Lectures, and in year 2000, a volume was devoted to him in the Library of Living Philosophers. Professor Nasr speaks and writes based on the doctrine and the viewpoints of the perennial philosophy on subjects such as philosophy, religion, spirituality, music, art, architecture, science, literature, civilization dialogues, and the natural environment. He also wrote two books of poetry (namely Poems of the Way and The Pilgrimage of Life and the Wisdom of Rumi), and has been even described as a 'polymath'. Nasr speaks Persian, English, French, German, Spanish and Arabic fluently. Awards and honors In year 2000, a volume was devoted to him in the Library of Living Philosophers. Templeton Religion and Science Award (1999) First Muslim and first non-Western scholar to deliver the prestigious Gifford Lectures Honorary Doctor of Uppsala University, Sweden (1977) He was nominated and won King Faisal Foundation award, but his prize was withdrawn upon the prize knowledge of his being a Shia. He was notified of winning the prize in 1979 but later the prize was withdrawn with no explanation. -

Nyak Arief No. 128, Kompleks Asrama Haji Kota Banda Aceh ABSTRACT Mulla Sadra name the Islamic philosophy the al-Hikmah al-Muta'aliah. According to him, al-hikmah al-muta'aliah is the knowledge which is based on an intellectual intuition (irfani or isyraq dzawq), rational proof ('aql or istidlal), and the shari'ah (burhany). Al-Hikmah al-Muta'āliyyah is a synthesis of three mode of thinking, namely: theology with character-polemical dialectical (Jaddaly), philosophy with the character of demonstrative (burhany), theosofy with the illuminastic and gnostic character (dhawq). This all elements are derived from the Koran, and Hadith. Human‟s knowledge is divided into two: husuly science and hudhury science. Husuly science (acquired), knowledge gained through ilham (inspiration), al-kasyf (unveiling) and al-hads (intuition). Science hudlury (innate) covers about perception which, according to Mulla Sadra it was identified as an act which refers to the sensation, thus the perception is the designation for the deeds done by any soul to know the object of knowledge, both physical and non physical. He divides perception into four levels; sensory perception (al-Hiss), imajinal (al-khayal), intuition senses (wahm), intelegency (ta'aqqul). Intelegency as the highest level is based upon the degree achievement (tajarud) with the cosmos, while the sensory perception is the lowest level. The term tajarud is actually ascribed to Allah as a Being Payers (wajib al-wujud) who do not have an attachment to anything else but Himself. God‟s knowledge is objective existence (al-wujud al-'ainy).
