Surrounded by a fascinating heritage

Arborfield Green is steeped in military heritage, which is still echoed throughout the site today. From the original, refurbished buildings to the acres of ancient woodland, you’ll be reminded of the important part the area played in Britain’s history. Originally established in 1904 as a Remount Depot during WW1, it was mainly used as a Horse Infirmary, treating injured horses throughout the war. Thirty years later, the site was transformed into the Army Technical School for boys and became known as Arborfield Garrison. The site was also home to The Royal Electrical & Mechanical Engineers (REME) until 2016.

Today, the Garrison’s historic buildings are being regenerated to form part of this vibrant, new community. The Horse Infirmary Stables, a listed scheduled monument, will be at the heart of the community. It is being lovingly converted into a vibrant public place for residents, overlooking a new village green. The Moat House, once the Garrison HQ, will be transformed into new offices for the community and the medieval moat will also form a key part of the new landscape.

Equestrian and military-inspired public art will also be installed and the existing Memorial Gardens will be relocated to a new prominent position with sculptures, commemorating REME’s milestones. All of this will ensure that the thriving new community will become an integral part of Arborfield Green’s past, present and future. A community you’ll grow with

In building a community that will grow and develop over time, careful consideration should be put into its management and long-term maintenance programme. That is why Crest Nicholson has created the Community Interest Company (CIC), dedicated to managing the new community to see it grow and flourish.

The CIC will regularly come together to discuss community issues, upcoming regeneration projects and maintenance tasks, to ensure the high standard of living is maintained, not only for current residents, but for future generations too.

Run by professional representatives, the organisation will inform and empower residents about community news and projects, so eventually the residents themselves can shape their way of life here. Shaping your future
