Form HISTORY1913-21 BUREAUOFMILITARY 1913-21 BUROSTAIREMILEATA ORIGINAL No. W.S. 1715 SEÁN STATEMENT BY COMMANDANT-GENERAL BOYLAN Edenmore, Dunboyne, Co, Meath. Part II. Just prior to my release from Frongoch, two organisations called "The Irish National Aid Association" and "The Irish Volunteers' Dependents' Fund" had been launched in Dublin and elsewhere for the purpose of collecting funds to help the dependents of Volunteers interned in Frongoch and elsewhere. Those two organisations were amalgamated a short time later and eventually became "The Irish White Cross". Immediately after my release, with the help of the other Volunteers in Dunboyne, I organised collections in the area for the Fund. From this Fund, the Volunteers still interned or in Jail received gifts of cigarettes, tobacco and money to buy certain essentials. Their dependents also received gifts of money in necessitous cases. At the same time, I got most of the Dunboyne Volunteers together again. A few of the original members dropped out. We now had about twelve active men, ready and willing to continue the struggle for freedom. Of those twelve men I would say nine were members of the Irish Republican Brotherhood or Dunboyne Circle. I was the Centre of Dunboyne Circle and got in touch with members of the Leinster and Supreme Councils in Dublin who had been released or who had not been arrested.

IRELAND 2040 OUR PLAN National Planning Framework Anna McKenna 78 George’s Street Drogheda Submitted on behalf of Drogheda City Status Group 1 | Page INTRODUCTION A City for the North Es This submission is presented by Drogheda City Status Group a body of concerned citizens who, six years ago, set about achieving recognition of Drogheda as a City and National Growth Centre. Miss Statement of Drogheda City Status Group is as follows: “To procure City Status for Drogheda to enable its unique hisory, location and potential to be appreciated and promoted in indusry, sinss touris education, health and quality of life to the benefit and advantage of its citizens and ths of the South Louth and Eas Meath region.” Drogheda City Status preliminary study came to the conclusion that Drogheda’s problems stemmed from the lack of understanding and appreciation by policy makers of the importance and potential of the town and region. It became clear to us that policy makers in Dublin shared this flawed view of the Drogheda region and its proper status. 2 | Page Drogheda Iread’s arges on, (forerly a conty in s own rght) has been a ere o imporae for ards o 800 ears. ROINN COSANTA. BUREAU OF MILITARY HISTORY, 1913-21. STATEMENT BY WITNESS DOCUMENT NO. W.S. 901 Witness Seamus Finn, Athboy, Co. Meath. Identity. Adjutant, Meath Brigade; Vice O/C. and Director of Training, 1st Eastern Division. Subject. Irish Volunteer activities, Co. Meath, 1918-1919. Conditions, if any, Stipulated by Witness. Nil File No. S.2160 FormB.S.M.2 Statement by Mr. Seamus Finn, Athboy, Co. Meath. Part2. The year 1918 was an eventful one in Volunteer circles in Meath. Early on there were rumours of an effort being made by the British government to enforce conscription of Irishmen into their army for service in France etc. The people organised and local committees were set up in every parish, acting under a central committee in Dublin, to resist the attempt. These local committees were selected at public. meetings and were usually; composed of leading citizens, presided over by a parish priest or catholic curate. As a body the Volunteers did not act on them, but we placed ourselves at their disposal. to do what was necessary to help in the protest. One result of this threat was to increase the: strength of our forces considerably, which caused to some extent inconvenience and disorganisation. However, we got over this by appointing our more advanced men to take charge of drilling and training these recruits, and when they paraded in public they presented a fairly smart appearance. Needless to say all our work was done without arms, as the scarcity of these necessary parts of our equipment was a big drawback, and indeed a very big headache: to Battalion and Brigade staffs.

  • The List of Church of Ireland Parish Registers
THE LIST of CHURCH OF IRELAND PARISH REGISTERS A Colour-coded Resource Accounting For What Survives; Where It Is; & With Additional Information of Copies, Transcripts and Online Indexes SEPTEMBER 2021 The List of Parish Registers The List of Church of Ireland Parish Registers was originally compiled in-house for the Public Record Office of Ireland (PROI), now the National Archives of Ireland (NAI), by Miss Margaret Griffith (1911-2001) Deputy Keeper of the PROI during the 1950s. Griffith’s original list (which was titled the Table of Parochial Records and Copies) was based on inventories returned by the parochial officers about the year 1875/6, and thereafter corrected in the light of subsequent events - most particularly the tragic destruction of the PROI in 1922 when over 500 collections were destroyed. A table showing the position before 1922 had been published in July 1891 as an appendix to the 23rd Report of the Deputy Keeper of the Public Records Office of Ireland. In the light of the 1922 fire, the list changed dramatically – the large numbers of collections underlined indicated that they had been destroyed by fire in 1922. The List has been updated regularly since 1984, when PROI agreed that the RCB Library should be the place of deposit for Church of Ireland registers. Under the tenure of Dr Raymond Refaussé, the Church’s first professional archivist, the work of gathering in registers and other local records from local custody was carried out in earnest and today the RCB Library’s parish collections number 1,114. The Library is also responsible for the care of registers that remain in local custody, although until they are transferred it is difficult to ascertain exactly what dates are covered.
