This Capability Statement presents an overview of Orrcon Steel’s Pipelines & Infrastructure Team (P&I), their scope of services, supply capabilities, quality systems and list of completed projects.

P&I is a project focused business unit within Orrcon Steel. The group’s activities cover a broad spectrum with expertise aligned to industry sectors covering the development of pipelines, energy, resources, mining and infrastructure.

We have world class supply capability and support functions to deliver your project in full and on time, safely and on budget and importantly fully compliant to your quality requirements. Our dedicated team specialises in the manufacturing, procurement and management for some of the largest infrastructure development projects in Australia.

Orrcon Steel is a leading Australian distributor and manufacturer of steel, tube and pipe.

Our extensive product range covers RHS, SHS & CHS structural tubular steel, hot rolled structural steel, pipelines and a variety of fencing, roofing and building accessories.

We supply steel, tube and pipe to a diverse customer base including steel fabricators, furniture and trailer body manufacturers, housing and construction companies, pipeline and infrastructure engineering firms and more.

We have distribution centres in five Australian states, pipe stock holding yards and a number of branches, stockists and resellers nation-wide. Brief History ›› Orrcon Steel was formed from the merger of Welded Tube Mills and Hills Tubing division in October, 2000. ›› In February 2005, Hills Holdings acquired 100% of Orrcon Steel. ›› In 2007 Orrcon Steel acquired the Impressive Group from Western Australia. ›› In 2010 Orrcon Steel added the SteelBarn business which included the acquisition of five branches in Qld. ›› In February 2014, BlueScope acquired Orrcon Steel from Hills Holdings. We are now a wholly owned subsidiary of BlueScope Steel Ltd. BlueScope is a flat product steel producer with operations in Australia, Asia, New Zealand, North America and Pacific Islands.

Structural Steel Orrcon Steel offers a wide range of Electric Resistance Welding (ERW) Carbon Steel Structural Tubulars.

Our Structural Tubular Products are a significant part of our production and are used across a wide range of structural applications from building structures to major sporting arenas, major mining and industry infrastructure, and for aesthetic structural use such as airports and shipping terminals. Precision Tube Orrcon Steel manufactures precision tube at its precision tubing mill in Adelaide. This mill produces square, rectangular, round and oval tube and can also manufacture special shapes subject to enquiry. Hot Rolled Structural Steel Orrcon Steel offers a range of hot rolled structural products, including beams, columns, channels, angles and merchant bar (including flats, angles & rounds) as well as a broad range of plate from 3mm up to 200mm. Oil, Gas, Water and Slurry Pipelines Orrcon Steel applies manufacturing and industry expertise to bring pipeline projects from the design stage through to project execution and beyond.

We provide a full pipeline package with a range of API line pipe and pipeline coatings – as well as a back-end logistics and project management team – to ensure your pipeline project remains on time and on budget. Working with clients across Australia, Orrcon Steel’s Pipelines & Infrastructure team has been securing pipeline projects since 2003. Our quality, results and safety focused team offer a single entity source to help you deliver your next critical project.

With an extensive history of offshore procurement we understand and control risk when sourcing pressure pipe and structural steel products. Our technical and risk management specialists have the knowledge and experience to meet the expectations of the Australian pipeline and construction industries.

The Orrcon Steel P&I team procure and supply a complete range of ERW/ HFW, LSAW and SSAW bare and coated steel pipe for oil and gas, piling and structural applications. Our customers and end-users demand low-risk outcomes, which drives our commitment to provide reliability, consistency and quality from a proven supply chain.

Orrcon Steel’s pre-qualified international suppliers manufacture line pipe in a complete range of diameters and wall thicknesses in grades X42 to X80. These mills carry with them quality management system certification to API Q1 and ISO 9001:2008 in addition to environmental management systems compliant to ISO 14001.

The P&I team ensures its suppliers pass a rigorous pre-qualification process to demonstrate they can successfully and consistently comply with all product standards. We focus on providing an efficient alliance between local clients and pre-qualified international API accredited pipe mills.

From initial enquiry to final delivery, Orrcon Steel’s people and processes are focused on ensuring that every clients’ project is a success.

Orrcon Steel has worked closely with its parent company BlueScope Steel Ltd to develop and implement a robust HSE Management system (aligned to AS 4801 & ISO 14001) to manage the operating risks within the business. The HSE Management system provides the tools to Site Management Teams to identify, assess and develop sufficient controls for the operating risks and to train our workforce in implementing these controls.

The system also incorporates a HSE Activity Scheduler to provide structure in undertaking actual risk mitigation activities in accordance with State legislation, Corporate Governance and BlueScope HSE Standards.

Orrcon Steel is committed to minimising environmental impacts and resource usage. Programs in place include quantification of greenhouse gas emissions and rates of general waste and recyclable streams generated across all sites.
