Solo-Nation: Estate Planning for a New Era of “Singletons”
Solo-Nation: Estate Planning for a New Era of “Singletons” 2013 Estate Planning, Guardianship and Elder law Conference Moody Gardens Galveston, Texas August 8-9, 2013 Bryn Poland and Pi-Yi Mayo* 5223 Garth Road Baytown, Texas 77521 *Certified Elder Law Attorney by the National Elder Law Foundation Nothing in this paper is to be construed as the rendering of legal advice for specific cases, and readers are responsible for obtaining such advice from their own legal counsel. Introduction In 1985, Rose Nylund and Dorothy Zbornak responded to a room-for-rent ad on a bulletin board in a local grocery store in Miami, Florida, posted by their future roommate, Blanche Devereaux. The single women were soon joined by Dorothy’s mother, Sophia Petrillo, after the retirement home where she lived, Shady Pines, burned down. For the next ten years, the four women took care of each other as they aged while (mostly) enjoying each other’s company. The roommates cook together, help each other when one get sick or has an emergency, and they form an informal “family” together. While they don’t always get along, they are always there for each other in a time of need. If this story line sounds familiar, it should. It is the premise for the sitcom The Golden Girls. The show reached critical acclaim and each of the four stars received Emmy Awards for their roles. The country fell in love with these women, but it is unlikely that the show’s producers realized just how close to reality their show would become nearly thirty years later. -

The post-feminist rhetoric, which surged as a result of the economic boom of the 1990s and 2000s, optimistically embraces consumer freedom, choice and empowerment (Genz and Brabon 2018) and presents women as assertive beings who enjoy their sexual freedom and financial agency. Analyzing two shows that feature senior women as their main characters , whose pilot episodes aired thirty years apart can shed some light on how media have changed the portrayal of senior women and their sexualities. The Golden Girls and Grace and Frankie share enough features to enable us to trace similarities: the leading characters are all white women, middle-upper class American, for instance. -
Ottoman Roses Notebook Free
FREE OTTOMAN ROSES NOTEBOOK PDF Cath Kidston | 106 pages | 29 Mar 2007 | CHRONICLE BOOKS | 9780811857642 | English | California, United States Rose's notebook | Miraculous Ladybug Wiki | Fandom The Ottoman Empire was one of the largest superpowers and longest-lived dynasties in world history. In the 16th century, the Ottoman Empire was not only a dominant military force, but a diverse and multicultural society. The glory wouldn't last, however, and after centuries of political crises, the Ottoman Empire was finally dismantled after World War I. Osman Gazi is known as the father of the Ottoman dynasty, the first in a long line of military leaders and sultans who came to rule the Ottoman Empire for six centuries. In fact, the word Ottoman in English derives from the Italian pronunciation of Osman's name. He led one of many small Islamic principalities in the region at the time, but Osman wasn't satisfied with a provincial kingdom. He raised an Ottoman Roses Notebook of fierce frontier warriors known as Ghazis and marched against Byzantine strongholds in Asia Minor. According to Ottoman loreOsman had a dream in which all the known world was unified under Ottoman rule, symbolized Ottoman Roses Notebook the canopy of a massive tree rising from his body and covering the world. This vision, first published years after Osman's death, provided divine authority for the Ottoman conquests to come, explained historian Caroline Finkel in " Osman's Dream: The History of the Ottoman Empire. Although its population had dwindled, the fabled city still had its impenetrable walls. But the Ottoman Roses Notebook came prepared with a new type of weaponry: cannons. -
Celebrating Betty White (Queens)
Borough Battle: Celebrating Betty White (Queens) Andrea and Jim. Two friends. Two boroughs. Two SeamlessWeb meals. Read what happens when they debate whether Queens or Brooklyn is the proper place to host a tribute meal to the great Betty White in honor of her record-breaking appearance as host of Saturday Night Live. Take it away Andrea: If this was the Bea Arthur or Estelle Getty episode, I’d say, sure Brooklyn’s got this covered. But it’s not, and I’m not taking the seven hour train ride from Queens to Brooklyn to eat a meal that would make Sophia Petrillo proud (may she rest in peace). I’ve chosen Sanford’s as the Astoria restaurant for our Epic Betty White Feast. As a brunch institution, Sanford’s is well known among Astorians. Their French Toast is the French-iest and their Bloody Mary’s are…the bloodiest? I kid. Each and every Sunday that I’ve stumbled over to Sanford’s, I’ve been met with a crowd of hungry New Yorkers waiting for their chance at some amazing food. But none of that has to do with me not having to leave my apartment to enjoy my favorite Facebook meme come to life with my favorite person on this planet, Jim. So, back to the woman of the hour. Appetizer: Maryland Crab Cakes This classed up version of a St. Olaf staple would be sure to make Rose Nylund proud. Why’s that you ask? Of Norwegian heritage, her history with “krabbelag” (literal translation: “crab party”) would mean that she’s had significant experience with this shellfish. -

Dr. Andrew Opel Thesis Director Dr. Martin Kavka Outside Committee Member Dr. Arienne Ferchaud Committee Member 2 Abstract Anti-Semitism in the United States is just as prevalent today as it has ever been. How does this cultural anti-Semitism translate into the media? Through portraying Jews as greedy, neurotic, pushy, money obsessed, cheap, and a myriad other negative stereotypes, the media often perpetuates long standing anti-Semitic tropes. This thesis analyzes the prevalence of Jewish stereotypes in modern television through the analysis and discussion of three of the most popular current television shows, getting into the nuance and complexity of Jewish representation. Through the deliberate viewing of Big Mouth, The Goldbergs, and Schitt’s Creek, the conclusion is that although an effort is being made to debunk some stereotypes about Jews, there are other Jewish stereotypes that have remained popular in television media. These stereotypes are harmful to Jews because they both feed and fuel the anti-Semitic attitudes of viewers.
