His original mime shows, ‘NIGHT SWEETHEART ‘NIGHT BUTTERCUP, and UNDER A MONTANA MOON have been produced Off Broadway to critical raves. Bowers’ Broadway credits include Zazu in THE LION KING and Leggett in THE SCARLET PIMPERNEL. He has also appeared in New York at Theater for a New Audience, Here, LA MA MA, St. Anne’s Warehouse, and the NY Fringe Festival. Bill’s regional credits include Berkshire Theater Festival, Cincinnati Playhouse, Rep of St. Louis, Northshore Music Theater, Two River Theater, Arkansas Rep, George Street Playhouse, Montana Rep, PaperMill Play- house, River Union Stage, the Denver Center, Tennessee Rep, Seven Angels Theater, and the Eugene O’Neill Center. Bowers is featured in the film TWO WEEKS NOTICE, and on television in Disney’s OUT OF THE BOX, RE- MEMBER W.E.N.N., ONE LIFE TO LIVE, and ALL MY CHILDREN. Bowers works extensively with young people as a guest artist for organizations such as City at Peace, Very Special Arts (people with disabilities), Make-A-Wish-Foundation, Camp Comfort (for children who have lost a parent to cancer), and the Boston-based In the Best Interests of the Children (an advocacy for children and teens living with HIV/AIDS.) Bowers holds an MFA from Rutgers University’s Mason Gross School of the Arts, and an Honorary Ph.D. from his alma mater, Rocky Mountain College. Date of review: Thursday 13th December, 2007 Director: Jason Reitman Duration: 91 minutes Classification: M We rate it: 4 and a half stars. Jason Reitman, son of ultra-mainstream (and very successful) Hollywood director Ivan Reitman (he of Ghostbusters, Stripes and Kindergarten Cop fame) may just be able to move out from under his father’s significant shadow with this wonderful film. Jason Reitman’s breakthrough film as a director was 2005’s Thank You for Smoking, a cleverly written and very well performed black comedy that was so well pulled-off that one felt in the presence of promising new talent. It seems that feeling was correct, because with Juno, a very different film to its predecessor, Reitman has made an utterly assured and charming comedy/drama, and has drawn tremendously convincing and engaging performances from the entire cast. The talented young actress Ellen Page (who was so memorable in the confronting thriller Hard Candy) plays the titular character, an intelligent, articulate, out-of-left- field high-school student who, as our story opens, finds herself pregnant to her close friend and would-be boyfriend, Bleeker. Being smart, strong and self-possessed, Juno confronts her situation level-headedly, and decides, on reflection, that she will go through with the pregnancy and offer her child for adoption to a couple who are unable to conceive.     Welcome It is my pleasure to welcome you to AS YOU LIKE IT, the first production of our 50th anniversary season, and the first show in our Shakespearean act. Shakespeare’s plays have been a cornerstone of our work at CSC, and his writing continues to reflect and refract our triumphs and trials as individuals and collectively as a society. We inevitability turn to Shakespeare to express our despair, bewilderment, and delight. So, what better place to start our anniversary year than with the contemplative search for self and belonging in As You Like It. At the heart of this beautiful play is a speech that so perfectly encapsulates our mortality. All the world’s a stage, and we go through so many changes as we make our exits and our entrances. You will have noticed many changes for CSC. We have a new look, new membership opportunities, and are programming in a new way with more productions and a season that splits into what we have called “acts.” Each act focuses either on a playwright or on an era of work. It seemed appropriate to inaugurate this with a mini-season of Shakespeare, which continues with Fiasco Theater's TWELFTH NIGHT. Then there is Act II: Americans dedicated to work by American playwrights Terrence McNally (FIRE AND AIR) and Tennessee Williams (SUMMER AND SMOKE); very little of our repertoire has focused on classics written by Americans. This act also premieres a new play by Terrence McNally, as I feel that the word classic can also encapsulate the “bigger idea” and need not always be the work of a writer from the past.
