Juno Talent: Ellen Page, Jennifer Garner, Jason Bateman, Michael Cera, Alison Janney, J. K. Simmons, Olivia Thirlby. Date of review: Thursday 13th December, 2007 Director: Jason Reitman Duration: 91 minutes Classification: M We rate it: 4 and a half stars. Jason Reitman, son of ultra-mainstream (and very successful) Hollywood director Ivan Reitman (he of Ghostbusters, Stripes and Kindergarten Cop fame) may just be able to move out from under his father’s significant shadow with this wonderful film. Jason Reitman’s breakthrough film as a director was 2005’s Thank You for Smoking, a cleverly written and very well performed black comedy that was so well pulled-off that one felt in the presence of promising new talent. It seems that feeling was correct, because with Juno, a very different film to its predecessor, Reitman has made an utterly assured and charming comedy/drama, and has drawn tremendously convincing and engaging performances from the entire cast. The talented young actress Ellen Page (who was so memorable in the confronting thriller Hard Candy) plays the titular character, an intelligent, articulate, out-of-left- field high-school student who, as our story opens, finds herself pregnant to her close friend and would-be boyfriend, Bleeker. Being smart, strong and self-possessed, Juno confronts her situation level-headedly, and decides, on reflection, that she will go through with the pregnancy and offer her child for adoption to a couple who are unable to conceive. With the support of her family - stepmother Bren (the wonderful Alison Janney) and father Mac (the ever-humourous J.

Our TIFF: Geoffrey Rush smoking with the riff-raff 11-01-28 1:24 PM Our TIFF: Geoffrey Rush smoking with the riff-raff TIFF most down-to-earth celebrity? Geoffrey Rush casually shared a smoke or two with regular folks on the sidewalk outside the It Might Get Loud party at the George Pimentel for National Post SoHo Metropolitan. National Post · Friday, Sept. 12, 2008 How the Post’s team of reporters saw this year’s film festival. By Nathalie Atkinson, Vanessa Farquharson, Shinan Govani, Ben Kaplan, Chris Knight, Adam McDowell, Katherine Monk, Jay Stone and Bob Thompson Best festival motto OK, there is only one: For the love of film. But it’s so flexible. Say it in a straight voice and it’s about how much you enjoy movies. Add a sarcastic tone and it doubles as an epithet for when you’ve just been turned away from a party, or had your cab snatched by Julianne Moore: “Oh, for the love of film!” C.K. Best star-sighting vantage point If you can, land this coveted spot: the corner table behind the mesh divider at the Hazelton’s lobby bar, which offers perfect sightlines to the hotel’s patio, restaurant, lobby, elevators and washroom corridor, so you don’t miss a single star. It’s celebrity central: Mickey Rourke, Marilyn Manson and Evan Rachel Wood, Adrian Brody, Mark Ruffalo, überpublicist Stephen Huvane and the last emperor himself, Valentino, all waltzed through. Within the same hour. (Bonus: Harvey Weinstein is often ensconced at a side table taking pitches, like an audience with the Pope.) N.A.

McWeeny Dean, College of Fine Arts 3 ABSTRACT BROWN, MEGAN R., M.A., December 2012, Film Studies A Binary Within the Binary: Machinima as Digital Agency and Growing Commercial Incorporation (128 pp.) Director of Thesis: Louis-Georges Schwartz. This thesis traces machinima, films created in real-time from videogame engines, from the exterior toward the interior, focusing on the manner in which the medium functions as a tool for marginalized expression in the face of commercial and corporate inclusion. I contextualize machinima in three distinct contexts: first, machinima as historiography, which allows its minority creators to articulate and distribute their interpretation of national and international events without mass media interference. Second, machinima as a form of fan fiction, in which filmmakers blur the line between consumers and producers, a feature which is slowly being warped as videogame studios begin to incorporate machinima into marketing techniques. Finally, the comparison between psychoanalytic film theory, which explains the psychological motivations behind cinema's appeal, applied to videogames and their resulting machinima, which knowingly disregard established theory and create agency through parody.

  • This Is the End and Parafictional Persona
“Give Me the Seth Rogen Laugh”: This Is the End and Parafictional Persona BRADLEY J. DIXON In the opening scene of This Is the End (2013), Seth Rogen walks through an airport concourse to pick up his old friend, Jay Baruchel, who has just flown in from Canada for a short stay in Los Angeles. After they meet, share a hug, and walk through the airport to begin what Rogen has planned to be “the best weekend ever,” a paparazzo ambushes the pair with a video camera and a spotlight: PAPARAZZO: Hey Seth Rogen, how’s it going man? So, you, like, always play the same guy in every movie. When are you going to do some real acting, man? ROGEN: OK, thank you… PAPARAZZO: Give me something, give me the Seth Rogen laugh. Rogen gives his signature throaty laugh. PAPARAZZO: Seth Rogen, everybody. (Goldberg and Rogen 00:01:40– 00:01:55) From the very first scene, This Is the End wants its audience to know one thing: Rogen and Baruchel are playing themselves. In the film, as in life, the two actors were childhood friends in Canada, came up in television comedy together in the early 2000s, and moved to Los Angeles shortly after finding fame. Baruchel disliked the decadent Hollywood lifestyle and moved back to the comparatively less glamorous life of a working actor in Canada, while Rogen stayed in Los Angeles and became one of the most recognizable faces in comedy. The opening scenes of This Is the End show the pair reconnecting for the first time in over a year.

FinalProject 25/08/2018, 930 PM COGS108 Final Project Group Members: Yanyi Wang Ziwen Zeng Lingfei Lu Yuhan Wang Yuqing Deng Introduction and Background Movie revenue is one of the most important measure of good and bad movies. Revenue is also the most important and intuitionistic feedback to producers, directors and actors. Therefore it is worth for us to put effort on analyzing what factors correlate to revenue, so that producers, directors and actors know how to get higher revenue on next movie by focusing on most correlated factors. Our project focuses on anaylzing all kinds of factors that correlated to revenue, for example, genres, elements in the movie, popularity, release month, runtime, vote average, vote count on website and cast etc. After analysis, we can clearly know what are the crucial factors to a movie's revenue and our analysis can be used as a guide for people shooting movies who want to earn higher renveue for their next movie. They can focus on those most correlated factors, for example, shooting specific genre and hire some actors who have higher average revenue. Reasrch Question: Various factors blend together to create a high revenue for movie, but what are the most important aspect contribute to higher revenue?
