Descendants of George White 20 May 2018 Descendants of George White 20 May 2018 First Generation 1. George WHITE was born in 1801 in Ireland, Armah, Forkhill. He died on 8 Nov 1880 at the age of 79 in Illinois, --?--, Wenona. He was buried in Reilly Cemetery, Marshall Illinois. From the WENONA INDEX 1801 * 8 Nov 1880 Died In Groveland Township, LaSalle County, Monday, November 8, 1880, Mr. George White, aged 79 years. Mr. White was one of the earliest residents in Wenona, and was known far and wide as honest Uncle George White. There is no old citizen who will not regret to learn of his death. He was born in the Parish of Forkhill, County Armagh, Ireland, in 1801, and came to this country and settled in Wenona in 1852. His family followed him a year or two later. Mr. White was a well digger by profession, and in addition to that occupation he carried on farming. Several years ago, he purchased quite a body of land between Rutland and Ancona, and by industry and good management, had it all paid for before he began to think of giving up his daily labors. Some five or six years ago, he divided his property between his children, giving each of the three boys not less than 80 acres, remembering his five daughters also. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Father McDermott, at the Catholic Church, on yesterday, after which the remains were interred at Reilly’ scemetery. The services were attended by a large concourse of people. Uncle George White was universally respected, more particularly by those who knew him so intimately in the early days of Wenona. Peace to his ashes. ********************************************************************************************* Name: George White Age in 1870: 70 Birth Year: abt 1800 Birthplace: Ireland Home in 1870: Groveland, La Salle, Illinois Race: White Gender: Male Post Office: Wenona Value of real estate: View image Household Members: Name Age Peter White 30 George White 70 Ann White 50 Michael White 11 Rosa White 8 Thos Mcgraw 29 Bridget Mcgraw 32 John Mcgraw 3 Thomas Mcgraw 2 Mary Mcgraw 6/12 Source: US Census – 1870 - Dennis Howard - [email protected]. densue.net. ************************************************************************** George WHITE and Ann FINNIGAN were married in 1832 in Ireland. FROM the WENONA INDEX Death Of Mrs. George White 1816 * 3 Mar 1894 Died After a lingering illness the death summons came to Mrs. George White, Saturday, March 3, 1894. Anna Finnegan was born in County Armagh, Ireland, in 1816, and was married to George White in 1832. This union was blessed with 12 children, eight of whom survive the deceased, five daughters and three sons, Mrs. Michael Moore, Mrs. Thomas McGrath, Mrs. Jerry Hogan, Mrs. James O’ Brien, one unmarried daughter and three unmarried sons, George, Peter and Michael. Funeral services were held at the Rutland Catholic Church, Monday, by the Rev. Father Charles, following which the remains were taken to the Reilly Cemetery and placed by the side of those of her husband, who died several years ago. Mr. and Mrs. White were among the real early residents of Wenona, having located here some forty years ago, where they raised their children and ever lived a life that commanded the respect and esteem of all who knew them, and which will live long after them to the honor of the children of such good old people as were Mr. and Mrs. George White. ******************************************************************************************** Name: Ann White Age in 1870: 50 Birth Year: abt 1820 Birthplace: Ireland Home in 1870: Groveland, La Salle, Illinois Race: White Gender: Female Post Office: Wenona Value of real estate: View image Household Members: Name Age Peter White 30 George White 70 Ann White 50 Michael White 11 Rosa White 8 Thos Mcgraw 29 Bridget Mcgraw 32 John Mcgraw 3 Thomas Mcgraw 2 Mary Mcgraw 6/12 Source: US Census – 1870 - Dennis Howard - [email protected]. densue.net. ************************************************************************** Name: Ann White Age: 65 Birth Year: abt 1815 Birthplace: Ireland Home in 1880: Groveland, La Salle, Illinois Race: White Gender: Female Relation to Head of House: Mother 2 Descendants of George White 20 May 2018 Marital Status: Married Spouse's Name: George White Father's Birthplace: Ireland Mother's Birthplace: Ireland Neighbors: View others on page Occupation: Keeping House Cannot read/write: Blind: Deaf and dumb: Otherwise disabled: Idiotic or insane: View image Household Members: Name Age George White 36 George White 79 Ann White 65 Rose White 19 William White 13 Source: US Census – 1880 - Dennis Howard - [email protected]. densue.net. ************************************************************************** George WHITE and Ann FINNIGAN had the following children: 2 i. Tools McLAUGHLIN - HISTORY McLaughlin>Phillips or Werry>Turner>Paul Turner [See note at bottom of this page regarding these arms & the history of the McLaughlin name and variations] The McLaughlin family may have been originally from Ireland and then they may have been forced to flee to Scotland. It is possible that the family emigrated from Scotland and settled in co. Cavan, Ireland during the Elizabethan Plantation period (early 1600s) or after the 1641 Rebellion. Various spellings of the name are McLaughlin, McGlohlin and McGlaughlin. Whether they came as Presbyterians is unclear. The earliest McLaughlin found is Thomas McLaughlin born about 1745 who married Mary Stafford c.1770. They were found in co. Cavan, Ireland. Early parish records were obtained at Coroneary Presbyterian Church (at Cootehill), Knockbride Parish, co. Cavan, Ireland. During my research I have found that there were different McLaughlin families that started out in Ontario, Canada: those from Ireland who were Roman Catholic; others who were Wesleyan Methodist and Church of England ( and a few other faiths) and the Irish Presbyterian McLaughlins. As far as I know, the McLaughlin family of this web site emigrated from Co. Cavan, Ireland, were Presbyterian and settled first in Ontario, Canada in 1832 I would like to thank Gary McLaughlin for obtaining the Ireland material and Blair Barbeau, Mike Leslie and Sylvia who have provided a wealth of information on the family. Their e-mail addresses can be found on the 'McL-Contacts' page. In addition to the above, many dates, dossiers and the McLaughlin grave pictures of Enniskillen and of Oshawa Union Cemetery have been provided by M.A.
