Durham scored once in the first on a sac fly from DH Evan Longoria, and cut the deficit to 6-3 with two in the third, including RBI singles from LF Jesus Feliciano and CF Rich Thompson. Trailing 8-3 in the sixth, Durham scored three times to make it 8-6…C Stephen Vogt hit an RBI double and scored on a sac fly from 3B Will Rhymes…Durham added another run in the ninth and had the tying run at third but Feliciano struck out to end the game. Thompson went 3-for-4, and is now 7-for-9 in the series…SS Reid Brignac went 3-for-5 while RF Leslie Anderson, Vogt and Rhymes had two hits apiece…Longoria went 1-for-3 with a walk and sac fly. RH Matt Torra worked five innings in relief of Torres, and allowed two runs on seven hits, and RH Josh Lueke pitched two hitless innings…RH Lance Pendleton will start the third game of the series tonight at 7:15 p.m. MONTGOMERY (AA - Southern League) RH Alex Colome threw his first career nine-inning complete game and the Biscuits took the series opener in a 5-2 win over the Mississippi Braves…Colome only needed 95 pitches to earn his fifth consecutive win, allowing two runs while striking out six and not walking a batter. It was the Biscuits first complete game since Matt Moore’s no-hitter on June 16, 2011. A struggling Biscuits offense came alive, matching a season-high with five doubles…RF Mikie Mahtook put the Biscuits on the board with an RBI double in the fourth and later scored on an wild pitch. C Mark Thomas hit his first home run of the season, a solo shot in the fifth...SS Hak-Ju Lee hit a double to extend his on-base streak to 41 games. The Biscuits are in action again tonight at 8:05 ET with LH Kyle Lobstein taking the mound for Montgomery. CHARLOTTE (A – Florida State League) A six-run second inning sent the Dunedin Blue Jays to an 8-2 victory over the Stone Crabs…three Blue Jays hitters connected for home runs against Stone Crabs starter RH Albert Suarez in the 6-run second…he last four innings and was charged with six earned runs in dropping his third consecutive decision (5-7). On the mound against the Stone Crabs was Toronto Blue Jays RH Brandon Morrow, making his first start of a rehab assignment…worked three scoreless innings on just 24 pitches…he allowed two hits and a walk but induced two double plays and struck out two. Once Morrow was done, Dunedin turned to ace Sean Nolin, back from a six-week stint on the DL…tossed six innings of scoreless baseball to earn his eighth consecutive victory to open the season (8-0). 3B Riccio Torrez and C Luke Bailey both collected RBI’s as Charlotte finally broke into the run column in the seventh…DH Steve Tinoco went 2-for-4, and finished the series 6-for-13…the Stone Crabs host the Tampa Yankees tonight at 6:30 p.m. with LH Enny Romero getting the start. BOWLING GREEN (A – Midwest League) The Hot Rods earned their first series win in four tries over West Michigan this season with a 5-4 win over the Whitecaps on Sunday evening at Bowling Green Ballpark. RF Drew Vettleson gave the Hot Rods a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first with a homer (10) that bounced off the top of the wall and onto Seventh Avenue beyond right field…C Matt Rice had a pair of RBI singles, one in the fourth and another in the sixth, and the Hot Rods led 5-2 after six. In the last two innings, the Hot Rods escaped from two stressful situations, both with the tying run at third…in the eighth, RH Andrew Bellatti induced a pair of groundouts to first with the tying run at third…in the ninth, RH Austin Hubbard faced runners at second and third with one out…a pop out and fielder’s choice groundout sealed the Hot Rods win, as Hubbard picked up his 16th save of the season. RH Trevor Shull started and allowed two runs, one earned, in five innings for the win (3-6). The Hot Rods three-game series with West Michigan comes to an end on Monday night at 8:05 ET, with LH Ryan Carpenter getting the start for Bowling Green. HUDSON VALLEY (A – New York-Penn League) The Renegades scored eight runs over the first four innings to assume control early on, and never trailed after the second inning in a 9-2 win over the Williamsport Crosscutters. Hudson Valley started their offensive barrage with four in the second, including a 2-run double from SS Ryan Dunn… LF Marty Gantt hit an RBI triple and scored on a passed ball…in the third, Gantt worked a bases loaded walk to extend the Renegades lead to 5-2…DH Justin O’Conner hit a 3-run HR in the fourth to break it open…was his team- high third HR of the season and put Hudson Valley up 8-2. RH Jesse Hahn started and gave up two runs on three hits and a walk over four innings while striking out four…RH Eduar Quinonez tossed four shutout innings to earn the win (4-1), allowing three hits with four strikeouts, and RH Rob Finneran pitched a perfect ninth with two SO for the Renegades. Hudson Valley will go for the sweep on Monday night with LH Matt Spann getting the start and first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. PRINCETON (R - Appalachian League) RH Jonathan Weaver made his first career professional start for Princeton and allowed five runs on four hits in two innings, and a late comeback effort felt just short in a 5-4 loss to the Burlington Royals. The Royals loaded the bases with no outs in the first against Weaver, and went ahead following a 3-run triple and an RBI single before adding a run on a wild pitch in the second…Weaver fell to 0-4 with a 6.62 ERA (17.2-IP, 13-ER) in 10 games, nine of them out of the bullpen. 1B John Alexander hit an RBI single and 3B Daniel Duran hit a 2-out RBI double in the second that temporarily cut the Rays deficit in half, 4-2, before Burlington added one in the second…score remained 5-2 until the eighth when DH Ariel Soriano hit a 2-run double. Despite a leadoff single in the ninth the Rays could not tie it up…with one out, PR James Harris was picked off first and PH Julian Morillo struck out to end the game. The Rays bullpen did not allow a run over six innings…RH Eli Echarry allowed just three hits in five innings. Tonight at 7 p.m., RH Alex Keudell gets the start for Princeton as their series continues at Burlington. GCL RAYS (R – Gulf Coast League) The GCL Rays had a scheduled off day but return to action this afternoon vs. the GCL Orioles and LH Geisel De La Cruz (2-2, 4.50 ERA) getting the start.
