9 It’s been a busy few months for FOPSA since the last newsletter!! Our annual Easter Egg Hunt saw a change in venue to Maes-y-Sarn and was attended by over 100 children and their families. Children followed clues to find patterned eggs and I think that some may even have seen the Easter Bunny!! Thank you to everyone involved in helping us raise £285. The Village Bake off was next, on Bank Holiday Monday, and we were once again over whelmed by the number and quality of entries. A change in some categories saw some new adult competition and the result was a fantastic sum raised of £275. This is definitely turning into a popular event in our calendar. How lucky we were with the weather on the day of our Summer Fete!! After days of rain, our outdoor activities were threatened but, come Saturday morning, the Pentyrch clouds managed to hold off the rain for a very well supported community event. This year pony rides provided by the Smith’s ‘Rolo’ and Maggie’s Voice ‘Betty’ were very popular. The Nearly Wild Show was back, along with a double activity bouncy castle. Children of all ages enjoyed the many stalls and a chance to have photo fun with their friends in the spaced themed Photo Booth. Team Kings continue to be big supporters of FOPSA and very kindly ran the BBQ this year. A record amount of around £1,600 was raised. Thank you once again to the whole community who continue to support us in so many different ways.

1st Pentyrch Guides have had lots of fun this term in working towards the culture badge and we have been delighted to discover how rich in culture our local area is. We are so grateful that many in the local community have once again supported us in our ventures and exciting new experiences. Local historian and lifelong resident, Don Llewellyn, treated us to a hugely entertaining and interesting talk and slide-show; Deb Hunt opened the Pentyrch museum and library for us to explore as a group; Karen Williams treated us to an evening with Garth Farm's orphan lambs and Rev. Michael John gave us a fascinating tour of St Catwgs. We're extremely lucky to be based in Pentyrch with its rich history, opportunities and great sense of community. In April, our group celebrated its one year anniversary since reopening and the unit is now at full capacity with a waiting list. We're very fortunate to have three committed leaders but would always welcome more help. If you have a sense of adventure and are looking for a rewarding challenge, volunteering with our unit could be for you! You will enjoy different activities, have great fun and help girls to build their confidence and try something new at the same time.
