Excellent, most enjoyable readBy Michael SerranoI really enjoyed this story very much. Hamilton has an uncanny way of making events play out as if we [the reader} are finding things out as Matt Helm does at the same time. You read the book and think you know or can guess what is going to happen, but often times more often than not it doesn't. This time Helm is mourning the loss of a girlfriend when he gets assigned a case to "marry" a woman scientist he is suppose to be protecting. Events happen that don't make sense to Helm, but he follows his orders anyway. Traveling with the woman "blushing bride" Helm is followed by more than one person. The "bride" does not seem to be who she presents herself to be. The Shadowers, represent a group of agents who "shadow" a person/persons in order to assassinate them at the time needed to carry out a nefarious plot. The people following Helm seem to have their own agenda, making it hard for Helm to know who's who they say they are, and who's the shadower. An excellent, fun, quick read, I look forward to the next Matt Helm adventure.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Best of a great seriesBy Hugh AI was a huge fan of Donald Hamilton's Matt Helm series when they were first published oh so many years ago by Gold Medal. I am delighted to note that the material has held up so well. Even the Russians are cooperating by becoming our adversaries once again. There's a Tom Clancy blurb on the cover of each volume of the series. "A real world with a real character." I have no quarrel with Mr. Clancy's opinion but if you're looking for the military techno-geek stuff that characterized Red October and its many sequels, you won't find it in Hamilton's series. Helm is proficient with guns, a special pocket knife (but one with no trick blades), and his fists. His usual mission is to kill and he's good at it. I have written in previous reviews the books are hard-boiled spy novels, more Hammett than Fleming. As was the case with most Gold Medal books, the are short by today's doorstop standards and meant to be read in one or two sittings or on a long plane trip. Start with the first in the series, Death of a Citizen, and read them all. You won't regret it.3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Hamilton is really great reading for hard reality spy fans, in fact a mustBy Alan C.Not as complicated as the ambushers, so only 4 star ,but its Hamilton,so it is good ,really good.more influence of raymond Chandler, less Hamitt. But any real fan should enjoy this book. A brand-new edition of the classic novel. In order to foil a mass assassination plot, Matt Helm must undertake his most dangerous mission: matrimony. An agent like Helm might be a nice man to live with for a while, be he’s not the kind a woman would marry. Unless she has too. Unless it’s all part of maintaining an ingenious cover. The man whose daily bread is violence takes a most unlikely bride - just to make sure death doesn’t part them.
