Bibliography 2009 The MARINER’S MIRROR The International Journal of the Society for Nautical Research Bibliography for 2009 Compiled by Karen Partridge London The Society for Nautical Research 2 The Mariner’s Mirror Bibliography for 2009 Introduction This, the twenty-seventh annual maritime bibliography, includes books and articles published in 2009, as well as some works published in earlier years. The subjects included are as follows: naval history, mercantile history, nautical archaeology (but not the more technical works), biography, voyages and travel, and art and weapons and artefacts. A list of acquisitions of manuscripts precedes the published works cited, and I am, as always, grateful to The National Archives: Historical Manuscripts Commission (TNA: HMC) for providing this. With regard to books, International Standard Book Numbers (ISBNs) have been included, when available. This bibliography for 2009 was prepared and edited by Karen Partridge. Any correspondence relating to the bibliography should be sent to her at: 12 The Brambles, Limes Park Road, St Ives, Cambridgeshire, pe27 5nj email: [email protected] The compiler would like to thank everyone who contributed to the present bibliography, and always welcomes the assistance of readers. I should also like to acknowledge my use of the material found in the Tijdschrift voor Zeegeschiedenis. Introductory note to accessions 2009 The National Archives in its annual Accessions exercise collects information from over 200 record repositories throughout the British Isles about manuscript accessions received in the previous calendar year. The information is then edited and used to produce 32 thematic digests, which are distributed for publication in learned journals and newsletters. They can also be accessed through the National Archives website (www.national archives.gov.uk). This information has already been added to the indexes of the National Register of Archives (NRA), the central point for collecting and disseminating information about the location of manuscript sources relating the British history, outside the public records. The NRA, which currently contains over 44, 000 lists and catalogues of archives, can be consulted at the National Archives, Kew, Richmond, tw9 4du. Alternatively, searchers may access the indexes to the NRA and certain linked on-line catalogues via the website. Limited specific enquiries can be dealt with by post, or email: [email protected] Readers should note that dates for records in this digest are given when know, but that these are covering dates, which do not necessarily indicate the presence of records for all intervening years. Records have been included in the digest regardless of whether the deposit has yet been fully catalogued, and readers are advised to check with the relevant repository as to whether this or any other factors, such as closure periods, may affect access to the documents. The Russian port has a long tradition in the control of merchant vessels. Within the framework of international agreements on maritime transport safety, inspectors note aboard deficiencies relating to maritime security, protection of the environment and living conditions of crews and do not hesitate to retain substandard ships as much as necessary. Of the 265 ships to be broken up between January 1st and March 31 2016, 14 were detained in Novorossiysk, sometimes repeatedly, and therefore reported as hazardous vessels to all states bordering the Black Sea and the Mediterranean. At least 4 freighters, the Amina H, the Majed and Randy, the Venedikt Andreev and the Med Glory had the migrant carriers profile.

  • Chronology of the American Revolution
INTRODUCTION One of the missions of The Friends of Valley Forge Park is the promotion of our historical heritage so that the spirit of what took place over two hundred years ago continues to inspire both current and future generations of all people. It is with great pleasure and satisfaction that we are able to offer to the public this chronology of events of The American Revolution. While a simple listing of facts, it is the hope that it will instill in some the desire to dig a little deeper into the fascinating stories underlying the events presented. The following pages were compiled over a three year period with text taken from many sources, including the internet, reference books, tapes and many other available resources. A bibliography of source material is listed at the end of the book. This publication is the result of the dedication, time and effort of Mr. Frank Resavy, a long time volunteer at Valley Forge National Historical Park and a member of The Friends of Valley Forge Park. As with most efforts of this magnitude, a little help from friends is invaluable. Frank and The Friends are enormously grateful for the generous support that he received from the staff and volunteers at Valley Forge National Park as well as the education committee of The Friends of Valley Forge Park.
