The catchmeut visiou may not be something that cau be achieved iu the next five years, but something we can all work towards. Whilst the Cherwell Catchment lies largely within Oxfordshire it also encroaches into Buckinghamshire to the east and Warwickshire and Northamptonshire to the north. From its source at Charwelton to the Thames confluence, the river generally flows north to south and over a length of about 96 bn falls 100 metres, draining an area o f over 900 Ian2. Agriculture is the main land use in the catchment and has influenced the character of its countryside and landscape. The contribution made by the River Cherwell to the character of Oxfordshire in particular is recognised by several policies in the Structure Plan which seek to protect and enhance its natural features.

Meeting held at Exeter Hall, Kidlington on Tuesday 2nd April 2019 at 7.00pm MINUTES OF THE MEETING Meeting commenced 19.00 Councillors Present – Cllr M Billington (Chairman), Cllr C Stayt (Vice Chairman), Cllr M Smith, Cllr E Walton, Cllr N Prestidge Also in Attendance – Clerk to the Council (K East), Barwood Homes developer representatives (x3) To receive apologies for absence – Cllr S Wilson-Higgins and Cllr C Matheson 19/411 Declarations of interest: - Cllr M Smith declared his interest in the land that we may discuss within planning. 19/412 Barwood Homes Developers – Keith Fenwick with two colleagues from Barwood Homes attended the meeting to discuss the proposed housing developments and how the hearing went. Issues that came out of the hearing, main principle focuses: whether the right housing need figure had been identified by the council and the second was whether the greenbelt release was the best way to find the land needed, are there special circumstances. The second week of the hearing discussed the site specifics primarily. Two of the sites had significant objection. The land towards Oxford by the park and ride and PR8 towards Yarnton / Begbroke both reached the strongest objection. The site towards Woodstock also had significant objections. At the hearing Barwood promoted an inspection to the site for an additional 100 units but the inspector made it clear this was not for him to discuss. The local authority would make this decision if additional housing were required. The inspector was testing for soundness the plan proposed. There is a joint strategic plan coming for examination in 2022, this plan will identify needs beyond that date but this was debated.

  • Information on Historical Epwell
Topology and History of Epwell Village in the 13th century This note attempts to provide some background to the discovery location of the recent Museum acquisition. It in no way implies any tangible connection between the Seal and Epwell. Various sources are used mainly Victoria County History Volume X. A complete gold medieval seal matrix of 13th century date and in exceptional condition. The seal matrix is oval in plan with an applied gold spine and suspension loop on the reverse. In the centre of the front of the matrix is an oval dark green jasper intaglio, intricately engraved to depict a female in profile. The female wears a long veil about her head with either hair, or possibly pearls, visible above the forehead. The matrix has a personal legend in Latin around the outer edge beginning with a six-pointed star and reads '*SIGILVM : SECRETI : hEN :', translated as the 'Secret sea… Topology As the crow flies, Epwell is situated half-way between the towns of Banbury and Shipston-on-Stour, on the Oxfordshire-Warwickshire boundary. Its companion villages are Swalcliffe, Sibfords Gower and Feris, Tadmarton, Shutford and Shennington. Its nearest town is Banbury, 6.5 miles away, but Epwell was always the most remote of its villages, in some periods over 4 hours by cart from Banbury. The village of 1140 acres lies 180 m. (600 ft.) above sea level with a sheltering ring of low hills reaching up to 220 m. (743 ft). The land is of a sandy brown, oolitic limestone which has formed layers of clay at the foots of the slopes.
