May - September 2014 Over £30,000 raised in 4 years

Following the success of our previous Garden Festivals, please join us again to enjoy our supporters’ wonderful gardens. Delicious home-made refreshments and the hospice stall will be at selected gardens.

We are delighted to have 34 unique and interesting gardens opening this year, including our hospice gardens in . All funds donated will benefit hospice care.

Friday 23 May, 1pm - 6pm, Entrance £5 to both gardens, children free The Little Forge, The Town, OX15 4JG (6 miles south west of on the A361. Turn into The Town opposite The Duck on the Pond PH. Located on the left opposite Green Lane) By kind permission of Michael Pritchard Small garden with mature trees, shrubs and interesting features. Near a 12th century Grade 1 listed gem church famous for its wall paintings. Hospice stall. Wheelchair access. Teas at South Newington House (below). Sorry no dogs.

Richly planted herbaceous borders designed for year-round colour. Organic garden with established beds and rotation planting scheme. Orchard of fruit trees with pond. Teas and homemade refreshments. September Turn left at traffic lights onto B4100. 1pm - 5pm Located on right at edge of village) Entrance £5 Provided and maintained by The Simon (children Weatherby Garden Trust. You are free) warmly invited to visit our beautiful hospice gardens, a haven for patients, Manor, their families and friends. Visit, reflect Wardington and enjoy the work of our volunteer OX17 1SW gardeners. Teas & delicious (6 miles north homemade refreshments, hospice stall, east of plant stall & raffle. Bloxham Open Gardens Saturday 7 June, 2pm - 6pm Entrance £5 to all gardens. lies 3 miles south-west of Banbury on the A361. The gardens will be signposted and maps available at each garden. An eclectic and diverse selection of gardens in the beautiful ironstone village of Bloxham. The gardens vary from a small cottage garden packed with interest to a large landscaped plot, most of which have never opened to the public before. Teas, plant stall, hospice stall. Farthinghoe Open Gardens Sunday 8 June 2pm - 6pm Entrance £4 to all gardens, children free. The village of Farthinghoe is on the A422 about 5 miles south-east of Banbury. A varied group of gardens situated closely together in a pretty stone village, including; A large, carefully developed walled garden with thoughtfully arranged mixed borders and an interesting set of hedged sections. An old rectory garden with extensive lawns, a pretty rose circle, a peony garden set within a spectacular beech hedge and woodland spaces with fine views. A colourful garden with rockery and lovingly developed mixed borders and mature trees. Teas in the gardens of the Old Rectory, hospice stall. Dogs welcome on leads.

Sunday 22 June, 2pm - 5pm Entrance £2.50 Children free Wildwood Southam Road, Farnborough OX17 1EL (5 miles north of Banbury on the A423 heading towards Southam. Next to Farnborough Garden Centre) By kind permission of Mike and Marion Hart. Delightful 1/2 acre garden set amongst mature trees and shrubs providing a haven for wildlife. Many unusual plants and interesting rustic garden features. Cut flower garden. Plants & flowers for sale. Homemade teas. Hospice stall. Some areas unsuitable for wheelchairs.

Sunday 29 June 2pm - 6pm Entrance £5 Children free, dogs welcome on leads. Hill Grounds, Evenley NN13 5RZ (1 mile south of , turn off the A43) By kind permission of Janet Cropley A 3.5 acre plantsmans garden with year- round interest surrounded by a 200yd yew hedge. Summer bulbs, pergolas of rose and clematis. An “arboret” with wild flowers. Teas and hospice stall.

Sunday 6 July, 2pm - 5pm Last Admission 4.30pm £5 entry for garden ticket (children free) Broughton Castle (4 acres), Broughton, nr Banbury OX15 5EB (3 miles west of Banbury on Broughton Road B4035) By kind permission of Lord and Lady Saye and Sele Impressive gardens with lawns, topiary, herbaceous borders and climbing roses. The walled garden was established in the 1880s on the site of the 16th century kitchens. Ample parking. Hospice stall. Tea room.

Sunday 6 July, 2pm - 6pm Entrance £4 to include Placketts 17 Twyford Gardens, Twyford, Nr Banbury OX17 3JA (3 miles south of Banbury on the A4260 towards . Twyford Gardens is located on the left.) Sunday 6 July 2pm - 6pm Entrance £4 to include entry to Twyford Gardens Sorry no dogs. Placketts High Street, Adderbury OX17 3LS (3.5 miles south of Banbury on the A4260. Turn right at The Green. Located on left just past The Bell Inn). By kind permission of Dr David White 0.2 acre walled garden, sheltered gravelled courtyard, main garden exposed and sunny with distant views. Numerous clematis, roses and lilies.

Middleton Cheney Open Gardens Sunday 13 July, 1pm - 5pm Entrance £5 to ALL gardens (children under 12 free) 3 miles east of Banbury. From M40 J11 follow A422. A wonderful group of eight eclectic gardens. The gardens range from water gardens, courtyard gardens, cottage style and contemporary designed gardens. Come and relax in the gazebos, enjoy the ponds and marvel at the designer gardens and then relax with a cup of tea and a healthy slice of home-made cake. We hope you finish your day with a win on the raffle and a tray full of new plants for your own gardens! The open gardens are: 1 The Moors Drive. Sunday 13 July, 2pm - 6pm, Entrance £5, children free Ablington Manor, Bibury, Cirencester GL7 5NY Ablington is situated off the B4425 Cirencester to Burford. The manor house is approached through iron gates by the stone road bridge over the river Coln. By kind permission of Robert and Prudence Cooper Ablington Manor is a grade 1 16th Century manor house with a 4 acre garden through which the River Coln runs. There are herbaceous borders, a small walled garden with rose pergolas, big lawn, woodland garden, small meadow arboretum, two gazebos for tea and unusual yew topiaries. The present owners have lived in the house for forty years.

Sunday 20 July, 2pm - 6pm, Entrance by donation The Old Vicarage, Main Street, Bledington OX7 6UX (On B4450 between and Stow-on-the-Wold not next to the church) By kind permission of Sue and Tony Windsor 1½ acre garden around an early Victorian vicarage. Small rockery & pond with bog plants. Borders & beds of hardy perennials, shrubs & trees. Rose garden with about 250 David Austen roses under-planted with hostas, penstemons, astilbes & astrantia. Teas & cakes. Plants for sale. Hospice stall. Dogs welcome on leads.

Sunday 20 July 2pm - 5pm, Entrance by donation Thatched Cottage Junction Road, Churchill OX7 6NW (3 miles west of Chipping Norton on the B4450. Located on the left just before you leave the village going towards Bledington) By kind permission of Patrick and Natasha Bucknell 1/3 acre cottage garden, bulbs, lilies, usually something in flower. Not suitable for wheelchairs. Teas will be available at The Old Vicarage, Bledington (above).

Sunday 20 July, 2pm - 5pm Entrance £4 (children free) includes entrance to The Old Barn Home Close, Kettle End, Weedon Lois NN12 8PW (8 miles east of Banbury off the B4525, via Thorpe Mandeville & Weston. Carry on to High Street, Weedon Lois) By kind permission of Clyde Burbidge Two acre garden with herbaceous borders and attractive ponds, featuring a gazebo and willow arbour. Trees and vegetable garden. Car parking. Cream teas and stall.

Sunday 20 July, 2pm - 5pm Entrance £4 (children free) includes entrance to Home Close The Old Barn, Weedon Lois NN12 8PL (8 miles east of Banbury off B4525, see directions for Home Close above. Located near the Church, also worth a visit!) By kind permission of John and Iris Gregory Small plantsman’s garden that has opened for the NGS for 23 years. Features hardy perennials, roses, clematis and a collection of violas. Cream teas at Home Close. Car parking in lay-by and at Home Close. Memorial to Dame Edith Sitwell at nearby Church of St Mary & St Peter (guide available).

Saturday 26 July, 10am - 5pm, Entrance £6, to include map of the grounds (children free) Broughton Grange (25 acres), Wykham Lane, Broughton, nr Banbury OX15 5DS (¼ mile from Broughton village on Wykham Lane) Entrance on right) Impressive gardens in a spectacular setting. Large terraced walled garden, formal and informal areas of outstanding variety and interest. Teas and cakes. Plants for sale. Hospice stall. Ample parking. Sorry, no dogs (except guide dogs). Steps and steep pathways to parts of garden. Wheelchair access to some areas.

Sunday 3 August, 11am - 4pm, Entrance by donation 17 Roper Road, Heyford Park OX25 5TS (Turn into Darcy Rd from Camp Rd, left into Gordon Rd,right into Eady Rd then left into Roper Rd) By kind permission of Anna Rosewell A small cottage style garden packed with hardy perennials, bedding, shrubs, bulbs and fruit. The front garden is a wildflower meadow, vegetables are grown in recycled and upcycled pots on the front drive. Majority of plants are grown from seed, cuttings and division and there are always plants for sale. Dogs on leads and children welcome.

Saturday and Sunday 10/11 May and 14/15 June and 5/6 July, 2pm - 5pm Entrance £2.50, children free. Wintergardens House, Wintergardens Way, Banbury OX16 1UT (Turn into Dukes Meadow Drive from A423, then 3rd or 4th left turning into Wintergardens Way) By kind permission of Nick Macartney Small south facing garden. The garden is laid out on 3 levels with all-year-round interest planting surrounding the lawns. Octagonal greenhouse, small pond and patio area. An evolving garden with changes made each year to the planting to make the space more user friendly and to show how diverse a small garden can be. Teas, plant sale and competition with garden design prizes. Sorry no dogs.

Katharine House Hospice provides care for a population of over 140,000 in Banbury and the surrounding areas.
