Letter From The Editor ADDICTION. Are you addicited to your computer? (That’s intended to be provocative.) My wife says I am. But I accuse her of being addicted to her horses, so we’re all even. We put in about equal hours on our avocations. How many hours a day are you in front of your computer? Of those, how many are for your vocation? Your avocation? How many are entertainment? How many times a day do you check your e-mail? Do you surf the internet or just use it to search for information? Do you use it to organize your life, finances, calendar, stock prices, addresses, etc.? Do you attend SEMCO meetings every month? Those are all “feel good” things and sound like worthy efforts. They justify addiction to your computer as a tool. But there are negatives to addictions. How much time do you spend maintaining your computer. I include rebooting after crashes, trying to find why the darn thing seems to have a mind of its own and won’t do what you want, doing virus scans and file corruption scans and backups. I also include trying to get the latest new upgrades and software to run (if you have to have all the newest). These are all negatives that simply interfere and take huge amounts of time from useful pursuits. (My car doesn’t need all that much maintenance.) Come to SEMCO and learn how to acccent the feel-goods and reduce the feel-bads of your addiction. Bill 29 overnight, due to overheating.
