BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS COUNTY OF SHELBY, TENNESSEE CERTIFIED EXTRACT OF MINUTES SESSION OF MONDAY, MARCH 31, 2008 ITEM 19 (ADOPTED) Mr. Kuhn, County Attorney, announced Item 19, Resolution electing a member of the Tennessee General Assembly to the office of State Representative for the Eighty-Seventh House District of Tennessee. ******* The Clerk called the roll for nominations for State Representative, District 87, with the following results: Commissioner Flinn - nominated Karen Camper Commissioner Carpenter - no nomination Commissioner Gibson - passed Commissioner Brooks - nominated Jennings Bernard Commissioner Malone - no nomination Commissioner Harvey - seconded the nomination of Jennings Bernard Commissioner Chism - seconded the nomination of Karen Camper Commissioner Ford - nominated Andrew Withers Commissioner Avery - seconded the nomination of Karen Camper Commissioner Bunker - passed Commissioner Mulroy - no nomination Commissioner Ritz - passed Commissioner Lillard - no nomination Chairman Lillard asked if there were any nominations from the public in attendance at the meeting. Yeas, thirteen, Nays, None; Absent, none. 4106 THURSDAY, APRIL 3, 2008 – SEVENTY-EIGHTH LEGISLATIVE DAY Chairman Lillard declared the MOTION THAT NOMINATIONS CEASE CARRIED. Chairman Lillard recognized Ms. Karen Camper, who made a brief statement in support of her candidacy. Chairman Lillard recognized Reverend Jennings Bernard, who made a brief statement in support of his candidacy. Chairman Lillard recognized Mr. Andrew Withers, who made a brief statement in support of his candidacy. Chairman Lillard asked the Clerk to call the roll on the election of State Representative, District 87. (Brooks absent during roll call). Chairman Lillard declared the MOTION TO ELECT BY UNANIMOUS VOTE CARRIED. Chairman Lillard declared that Ms. Karen Camper was elected unanimously as State Representative, District 87. Chairman Lillard recognized State Representative, District-elect Ms. Karen Camper, who made a brief statement of appreciation for her election. The resolution is as follows: RESOLUTION ELECTING A MEMBER OF THE TENNESSEE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO THE OFFICE OF STATE REPRESENTATIVE FOR THE EIGHTY SEVENTH HOUSE DISTRICT OF TENNESSEE. 4107 THURSDAY, APRIL 3, 2008 – SEVENTY-EIGHTH LEGISLATIVE DAY “WHEREAS, due to the untimely passing of Gary Rowe as a member of the Tennessee State House from the office of State Representative for the Eighty Seventh House District of Tennessee; and WHEREAS, pursuant to the Tennessee Constitution, statues and Shelby County Charter, the Board of County Commissioners has the duty of filling this position until the next election, whereupon it can lawfully be placed on the ballot; and WHEREAS, The Board of County Commissioners has published the necessary notice in order to call for an election to fill this office at its meeting on Monday, March 31, 2008. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF SHELBY COUNTY, TENNESSEE, that pursuant to the provisions of Article II, Section 15 (b) of the Tennessee Constitution and Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 5-5-115 the Board of County Commissioners of Shelby County hereby elects Karen D.
