Yes, we had a successful wrestling season, not without a few problems, but the season was completed and we had a great Championship. I personally thought FHAAS did a great job in hosting the event and with the way they handled the Finals. Your Florida Chapter still had the opportunity to introduce our Class of 2021 and present this year's Scholarship. Thank you, FHSAA and its staff, for their generosity. There were some great matches that went down to the last few seconds, showing a high level of competition. Congratulations to all the wrestlers who competed this year. The Florida Chapter will continue to move forward. I understand we are not totally done with this virus and we will respect current regulations applied. Our goal is to operate as we have in the past with putting together fundraisers and Honors Weekend. As of now, Honors Weekend will continue as in past years, but we do have a plan in place if we are regulated. All indications per our conversations with individuals "in the know" say we may go back to full operations this fall and that we can go back to almost normal. The Florida Chapter would like to thank everyone who continued to sustain us through last year and this year. Kerch The City of Sunrise is governed by a Commission/Manager form of government with the City Commission serving as the governing body. The Sunrise City Commission, which is comprised of a Mayor and four Commissioners, is the legislative and policy-making body of the City, responsible for approving the budget and providing strategic direction to staff. The City Commission appoints the City Manager, City Attorney, City Clerk, Police Chief, and members of City boards and committees. The Mayor is elected at large, serves for four years, and presides over Commission meetings. Each of the four Commissioners is elected at large and serves for four years with two seats coming up for election every two years. The City Commission represents the public interest, promotes prompt, courteous responses to citizen problems and concerns, provides clear leadership and direction, and assures the present and future fiscal integrity of the City. The Sunrise Mayor and City Commissioners are dedicated to serving the broad needs of the community. They provide careful and responsible judgment in the exercise of legislative duties, with the clear understanding that they are the people’s representatives in setting policies and in determining levels and priorities of programs and expenditures. Many years ago, I was very active in the affairs of the amateur wrestling community, especially in the state of Florida and I wrote a "White Paper" to inform the leadership of where and how progress could be made. Fret not! It isn't my intention to rehash those views. I would like to offer some observations and suggestions from a new perspective. Three years ago, I retired. No more wrestling for me. I couldn't completely quit. My connection to amateur wrestling is serving on the Executive Board of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame Florida Chapter. I have found great satisfaction in that role. I do miss seeing the wrestlers, my fellow coaches and officials each weekend at tournaments. I will always miss the joys and frustrations of coaching youngsters in one of the toughest sports.
