DETAILS 9 | OCTOBER-NOVEMBER 2015 5 Ken Dryden Ken Dryden burst into the NHL in 1971, when the Montreal Canadiens® called on him to play six games with the team during the regular season. He not only won them all but also backed the team through the Playoffs to a Stanley Cup Championship. For his contribution, the rookie goalie took home the Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable player in the Playoffs. After two more successful seasons and a Vezina Trophy in 1973, Dryden surprised fans by announcing his retirement at age 26 to pursue law studies. After a year away from the NHL, however, the Canadiens enticed him to return. He helped the team to four Stanley Cup Championships in a row, while earning four more Vezina trophies. For winning a stunning six Stanley Cup Championships in just eight seasons – and so much more – Dryden was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1983. $185 OFDC 413993131 $1110 OFDC (set of 6) 413992131* See page 5 * Online and mail orders only Only 500 available, numbered $10 80 Set of all 6 souvenir sheets 403992145 See page 20 $14995 Limited edition framed print 27 in. x 21 in. / 685.8 mm x 533.4 mm 342060 6 DETAILS 9 | OCTOBER-NOVEMBER 2015 Visit your local post office. Martin Brodeur Hailing from Montréal – a city with a reputation for producing great goaltenders – Martin Brodeur played his first NHL game March 26, 1992, as a member of the New Jersey Devils®. Just 19 years old at the time, he joined the Devils’ lineup fulltime the following year, launching a career that spanned 22 seasons and earned him countless goaltending records – including the most wins of all time (691) and the most minutes played. Brodeur beat some of the longest standing records in the NHL, claiming one of his most impressive titles in 2009, when he topped 103 shutouts – a bar that had been set by the legendary Terry Sawchuk almost four decades earlier. With four Vezina trophies to his name and many other awards, Brodeur has earned his place as one of Canada’s greatest goaltenders. His father, Denis Brodeur, a former goaltender and successful hockey photographer, snapped the image used to create the stamp. $185 OFDC 413994131 $1110 OFDC (set of 6) 413992131* See page 5 * Online and mail orders only $24995 Limited edition framed print 32 in. x 21 in. / 812.8 mm x 533.4 mm 342061 Only 1,000 available, signed and numbered $10 80 Set of all 6 souvenir sheets 403992145 See page 20 See what’s new in-store for you. DETAILS 9 | OCTOBER-NOVEMBER 2015 7 Bernie Parent During games of street hockey in his hometown of Montréal, Bernie Parent fell in love with the challenge of stopping a puck. From that moment, a world-class goalie was born. Parent dreamed of playing in the NHL – a dream that came true when the Boston Bruins® recruited him to play two partial seasons in 1965-66 and 1966-67. In 1967, Parent joined the newly created Philadelphia Flyers® and, four years later, was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs®. Not long after, he joined the troubled World Hockey Association for the 1972- 73 season before returning to the Flyers and their adoring fans. With Parent between the pipes, the Flyers, then nicknamed the “Broad Street Bullies,” were unstoppable. In 1974, the team notched its first Stanley Cup Championship, a feat it repeated the following year. In both spectacular seasons, Philly’s star goalie claimed the Vezina and Conn Smythe trophies. In 1984, Parent was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. $185 OFDC 413995131 $1110 OFDC (set of 6) 413992131* See page 5 * Online and mail orders only Only 500 available, signed and numbered $10 80 Set of all 6 souvenir sheets 403992145 See page 20 $16995 Limited edition framed print 27 in. x 21 in. / 685.8 mm x 533.4 mm 342062 8 DETAILS 9 | OCTOBER-NOVEMBER 2015 From Canada or the U.S. 1-800-565-4362 Tony Esposito Nicknamed Tony “O” for his remarkable shutout ability, Tony Esposito grew up in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. He entered the NHL with a partial but remarkable first season in 1968, winning the Stanley Cup with the Montreal Canadiens. The following season, Esposito moved to the Chicago Blackhawks® where, in 14 seasons, he never failed to backstop his team to the Playoffs. As the storied goalie for the Blackhawks, he adopted the open-legged butterfly stance and earned a reputation for his lightning- quick glove hand. More than fast, his glove save benefited from another advantage: Esposito was a rare left-handed goalie – and attacking players were accustomed to a glove worn on the opposite hand.
