LATE SPRING 2019 CLASSES Monday, April 22 through Friday, May 10, 2019 All courses to take place at the Collier Creative Center (50 N. Fir St., Medford) To register, click the “Register Now” button on the TMTO section of the Craterian website. www.craterian.org COURSE DESCRIPTIONS BEGINNING TAP for Ages 12-19 Taught by Andrea Hochkeppel Mondays and Fridays (3 weeks), 7:00-8:00pm This class will be suited for performers who are new to tap dancing or early in their tap training! Whether you’ve never tapped before, or have taken a few classes, this course will introduce you to the basics of tap dance. *Tap shoes not required, but recommended.* AUDITIONING WORKSHOP for Ages 9 through Entering-8th-Graders Taught by Andrea Hochkeppel Saturday, April 27 (one day); 10:00am-12:00pm This workshop is perfect preparation for TMTO’s upcoming auditions for My Son Pinocchio Jr., in addition to preparing you for auditions outside of TMTO. Students will learn about what to wear to auditions, how to choose appropriate audition material, behind-the-scenes knowledge about casting, and more. Students will also receive personalized coaching on their audition materials! All performers will benefit from learning tricks of the trade regarding audition preparation. MUSICAL THEATER EXPLORATION for Ages 7-12 Taught by Andrea Hochkeppel Mondays (3 weeks), 4:00-6:30pm This class will focus on the fundamentals of acting, singing, and dancing for young performers. Fir St., Medford) COURSE DESCRIPTIONS COLLEGE SEMINAR for Entering-9th-Graders through Age 19 Taught by Andrea Hochkeppel Saturday, April 27 (one day); 1:00-3:30pm Interested in studying the performing arts in college, or pursuing a career in theater? This one-day seminar will give you a chance to discuss college auditions, BA and BFA programs, what to consider when applying for schools, ways to study theater without majoring in it, etc. Bring your questions to the table and gain practical, real-world insights about studying the arts in college, as well as pursuing a performing career! ACTING A SONG for Ages 13-19 Taught by Andrea Hochkeppel Fridays (3 weeks); 4:00-6:30pm Acting a Song will give class participants a chance to hone their acting skills by performing and receiving coaching on musical theater songs of their choice. Learn how to connect more deeply to your song selection, how to fully embody your character, and more! This class is great for anyone interested in expanding their performing horizons with TMTO, and beyond. MUSICAL THEATER DANCE for Ages 12-19 Taught by Cailey McCandless Wednesdays (3 weeks), 4:00-5:30pm This class will focus on the fundamentals of dance in a fun, supportive environment. By using music from famous Broadway musicals, you will gain greater understanding of musicality, coordination, technique, terminology, and strength as they relate to dance. This course will be appropriate for all levels of dance ability – from those who’ve never taken a dance class before to those with more extensive dance training! Previous classes have learned choreography to Hamilton, The Greatest Showman, The Lion King, Mary Poppins, and more. 2 of 6 LATE SPRING 2019 INSTRUCTOR BIOS ANDREA HOCHKEPPEL Auditioning Workshop, Beginning Tap, College Seminar, Musical Theater Exploration, Acting a Song Andrea has performed around the country and around the world as a musical theater performer. Most recently, she starred as Nemo in Walt Disney World’s Finding Nemo: The Musical. Other credits include: Royal Caribbean Cruise Line (Featured Singer; Brilliance of the Seas), Theatreworks USA’s tour of Junie B. Jones the Musical th (Junie B. Jones), Next Stage Repertory (The 25 …Putnam County Spelling Bee, Next to Normal). Andrea directed TMTO’s 2017 productions of Seussical the Musical and The Will Rogers Follies, and she’ll be directing TMTO’s upcoming productions of Freaky Friday and Frozen Jr. this year. Andrea holds a BA in Theater with a Musical Theater Certificate and Dance Minor from Northwestern University and is a proud Actors Equity member. She teaches performing arts classes at St. Mary’s School and offers voice, musical theater, and acting lessons through her private studio; www.andreahochkeppel.com. CAILEY McCANDLESS Musical Theater Dance Cailey is the Program Director for TMTO. She has been choreographing musical theater for 14 years and has choreographed dozens of shows for TMTO, in addition to working with most other local theater companies in the Valley. Most recently, Cailey directed and choreographed TMTO’s productions of Newsies and Willy Wonka, and this summer she will be choreographing Freaky Friday and stage managing My Son Pinocchio Jr. Cailey received a BA in Theater with emphases in Stage Management and Musical Theater Choreography as well as a Dance minor from Northwestern University. We appreciate your cooperation in adhering to our behavior policies and class expectations. • The use of alcohol, drugs, or smoking is prohibited. Weapons are not allowed on TMTO premises. Violations will result in dismissal from the program. • Be respectful of your instructors and fellow classmates. In order to learn, we must try new things and risk being vulnerable. Our classes are safe places to grow as artists! Disruptive and/or disrespectful behavior is grounds for dismissal from the class. We have a zero-tolerance policy for bullying. • Be mindful of others’ personal space, as well as our class space. Please clean up after yourself. • Be aware of your language and conversation topics, especially around our younger students. • Remain at the class location for the duration of your session, unless otherwise specified by the Instructor. Bring snacks/water with you, as you will not be able to leave to get food. • While in class, please stay focused and keep talking to a minimum – we want you to have fun with your friends, but we also want to make good progress! Cell phones must be turned off and put away during class. • Classes will not be open for parents to watch, unless otherwise specified by the instructor. Thank you in advance for understanding. • Refunds will only be offered if the class must be canceled due to lack of registrants. Makeup classes will not be offered due to illness or emergencies. • Students will be expected to wear appropriate attire for class: close-toed shoes (no sandals, flip-flops, bare feet), clothes they can move in freely, etc. No bare midriffs or revealing clothing. 6 of 6 .
