Suggested Songs for Musical Theatre and Voice ChiArts Admissions Office - 773-534-9718 - [email protected] Suggested Songs for Musical Theatre and Voice You should perform songs (no maer how simple) that demonstrate the quality of your voice and clear arculaon of the song’s words. Disney songs, patrioc songs, church hymns, show tunes, and art songs are appropriate. Popular music that imitates the style of a pop singer is not helpful in determining the quality of a young voice, and should be avoided. A piece that shows high notes and low notes is helpful. Students who are not sure about song choice should select from our preferred songs list at the end of this document. Many Chicago Public Libraries have sheet music available for free checkout. Disney Songs ● Part of That World from The Lile Mermaid ● How Far I'll Go from Moana ● Be Our Guest from Beauty and the Beast ● Just Can't Wait to Be King from Lion King ● I Won't Say (I'm in Love) from Hercules ● Go the Distance from Hercules ● Do You Want to Build a Snowman? from Frozen ● Reflecon from Mulan ● Just Around the Riverbend from Pocahontas ● Start of Something New from High School Musical Patrioc Songs ● America the Beauful ● My Country Tis of Thee ● The Star-Spangled Banner Church Hymns ● Amazing Grace ● He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands ● Swing Low Sweet Chariot ● Ando con Cristo ● Feliz el Dia ● Bendito es el nombre de Jesús Show Tunes ● Everybody's Got a Home But Me from Pipe Dream ● Mad Haer from Wonderland ● Everything I Know from In the Heights ● Someday from The Wedding Singer ● Oh, Biology from Freaky Friday The Musical Continued on page 2 ChiArts Admissions Office - 773-534-9718 - [email protected] ● Shopping Around from Wish You Were Here ● I Love Play Rehearsal from Be More Chill ● It Ain't No Thing from Bring It On ● Enjoy the Trip from Bring It On ● I Could Have Danced All Night from My Fair Lady ● I Feel Prey from West Side Story .

Starring the future, today! Book by Music & Lyrics by JOHN CAIRD STEPHEN SCHWARTZ Based on a concept by CHARLES LISANBY Orchestrations by BRUCE COUGHLIN & MARTIN ERSKINE Saturday, March 14, 7:30pm, Sunday, March 15, 3pm, Friday, March 20, 7:30pm & Saturday, March 21, 3pm Children of Eden TMTO sponsored by Season sponsored by from CRATERIAN PERFORMANCES presents the the EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR ur story begins in the beginning, with God’s creative nature and desire to be in relationship with his children. OPerhaps you don’t believe in the Biblical narrative (with which Stephen Schwartz, as composer and storyteller, takes consider- production of able liberties), but you might have children and find “Father’s” hopes and desires for his children relatable. Or perhaps you have siblings. You certainly have parents. And so, one way or another, you’re included in this story. It’s about you. It’s about all of us. It’s about our frailties and foibles, our struggles and failures, and it’s about our curiosity, ambitions and determination to live life the way we choose. It is also, like the Bible itself, ultimately a story about hope, love and redemption. When we don’t measure up, it takes someone else’s love us to lift us up. The meaning and message in all of this is timeless, and so director Cailey McCandless cast a vision for the show that unmoors it from ancient settings. And you might notice there are very few parallel lines in the show’s design... mostly intersecting angles, because life and our relationships tend to work that way.

  • The Lowdown Songlist
west coast music The Lowdown SPECIAL DANCES for Weddings: Please note that we will need to have your special dance requests, (I.E. First Dance, F/D Dance, etc) FOUR WEEKS in advance prior to your event so that we can confirm the band will be able to perform the song and will be able to locate sheet music, mp3 or CD of the song. If some cases where sheet music is not printed or an arrangement for the full band is needed, this gives us the time needed to properly prepare the music. Clients are not obligated to send in a list of general song requests. Many of our clients ask that the band just react to whatever their guests are responding to on the dance floor. Our clients that do provide us with song requests do so in varying degrees. Most clients give us a handful of songs they want played and avoided. If you desire the highest degree of control (allowing the band to only play within the margin of songs requested), we would ask for a minimum 80 requests. Please feel free to call us at the office should you have any questions. – West Coast Music SONGLIST: 24K Magic Bruno Mars Black Horse And A Cherry Tree KT 90s Medley Tunstall A Thousand Years Christina Perri Bless the Broken Road – Rascal Flatts Ain’t No Mountain High Enough (Duet) Blue Bayou – Linda Ronstadt Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell Blurred Lines Robin Thicke Ain’t Too Proud To Beg The Temptations Boogie Oogie A Taste Of Honey All About That Bass Meghan Trainor Brick House Commodores All Of Me John Legend Bring Me To Life Evanescence All Night Long Lionel Richie Bridge Over Troubled

  • Disney Musicals in Schools Puts Students in the Spotlight Onstage at Overture Center for the Arts
MEDIA ALERT For immediate release: Friday, April 20, 2018 Contact: Sarah Knab | 608.258.4438 DISNEY MUSICALS IN SCHOOLS PUTS STUDENTS IN THE SPOTLIGHT ONSTAGE AT OVERTURE CENTER FOR THE ARTS Overture Center is among 18 arts organizations in the world collaborating with Disney Musicals in Schools. (Madison, Wis.) - On May 23, more than 180 elementary students from Madison will have the extraordinary opportunity to sing and dance onstage at Overture Center for the Arts as the result of a grant awarded to Overture by Disney. The grant from Disney enables Overture to offer the Disney Musicals in Schools program to three new schools in Madison this year: Frank Allis Elementary School, Leopold Elementary School and Nuestro Mundo Community School. The program is designed to create sustainable theater program in elementary schools. Through the program, participating schools produce a Disney KIDS musical in their school community and join in a culminating performance at Overture. “Disney Musicals in Schools addresses one of our biggest goals – creating equitable access to the arts,” said Ted DeDee, Overture’s president and CEO. “Through the program, we can create meaningful and sustainable musical theater opportunities for students who would not otherwise be able to experience it. By being immersed in creating art with their peers and discovering the joys and confidence that comes from the process of learning to perform, students are making memories and developing skills to last a lifetime. In addition, through the structure of the program teachers learn and develop their skills, setting up for long term musical theater programs at their schools.” The selected schools participated in a 17-week musical theater residency, led by a team of teaching artists trained by Overture and Disney Theatrical Productions, at no cost.

Her parents’ arguments had become as common as the sun rising in the morning and the moon shining at night. Even her mother seemed to anticipate them coming now, like she could feel an impend- ing storm.

Dazzling Disney Blockbuster Makes Headlines at the Huron Country Playhouse in Grand Bend Thursday, June 20, 2019 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Extra! Extra! This just in! Disney’s sensational blockbuster musical Newsies leaps onto the stage at the Huron Country Playhouse in Grand Bend for three weeks only. This exciting mega‐musical, and winner of the 2012 Tony Award for Best Choreography, will entertain audiences of all generations with its heart, humour, and high‐energy dancing from June 27 to July 13. This production marks the Canadian professional premiere of the musical. Based on the beloved 1992 Disney movie inspired by the true story of the newsboy strike of 1899, Newsies is the rousing tale of a band of street kids who sell newspapers in New York City. When Joseph Pulitzer and the titans of publishing raise distribution prices taking away most of their meager profits, charismatic leader Jack Kelly rallies the “newsies” from across the city to rise up and strike against the unfair conditions.
