News from Hocking College: Coming Autumn 2012, Hocking College will be converting to the semester system. The University Plan for Higher Education has called for all Ohio state public universities to convert to the semester academic calendar. Other Ohio universities making the switch include Clark State Community College, Columbus State Community College, Ohio University, University of Cincinnati and The Ohio State University. This move will align Hocking's calendar with other two and four year public institutions in the University System of Ohio (USO) and with more than 90 percent of higher education institutions across the country. Semesters have real advantages to the faculty, staff and students at Hocking College. It allows the faculty to update their curriculum, while giving students more time to learn and understand the course material. Registration and financial aid activity will be reduced to only two times a year, eliminating the hassle of doing it three times in one year. Not only will Hocking graduates get to enter the work force earlier, but it also allows students still enrolled more time to get summer work or internships. Also now that Hocking will be in line with other colleges and universities, the transfer of credits will be easier for you. Semesters divide the school year into two 16-week terms, plus a 13-week summer session. If you are graduating before Fall 2012, you will not be affected by the change. However, if you do not graduate before Fall 2012, you will be affected and will be considered a "transition student." Make sure to meet with your academic advisor to make a plan to complete your program on time. If you have any questions, please see the Hocking College FAQ page or contact your advisor. TLC staff will be happy to help you with the transition from Quarters to Semesters (Q2S) during your winter quarter Academic Advising/Scheduling appointment. .
