The new Broadcom AirForce BCM5350 with Sentry5 technology combines high-performance 54g wireless LAN routing, Fast Ethernet switching, accelerated Virtual Private Network (VPN) security and MIPS processing into a single system-on-a-chip (SoC). Routers and gateways based on the new processor can include a variety of security features to ensure strong data protection over wired or wireless connections. The BCM5350 delivers the most advanced wireless LAN security in the industry, with built-in support for Wi-Fi Protected Access™ (WPA), and upgradeability to support the forthcoming WPA2 and IEEE 802.11i specifications. The BCM5350 also features the powerful on-chip VPN co-processor core of Broadcom’s popular Sentry5 family, providing hardware-based acceleration of encryption and authentication on virtual private network (VPNs) and freeing the MIPS32 processor for other tasks.

The MIPS32 processor is capable of wire-speed bridging and routing with advanced firewall protection. The integrated Ethernet switch is derived from the sixth generation of Broadcom’s popular RoboSwitch family, which has shipped in over 100 million devices to date. With built-in wireless LAN capabilities that support 802.11g and 802.11a/g implementations, the BCM5350 is the latest addition to the AirForce family of high performance Wi-Fi solutions.
