Fashionetta The term Fashionetta is a trademark term used by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. for community program presentations. A chapter may select format of that presentation. Kappa Beta Omega Chapter has chosen to apply term to a community debut for young ladies who are high school seniors or college freshmen. The aspects involved in “Fashionetta” are: • Charm and Poise Awareness • Cultural Awareness • Career Planning and College Preparation • Community Service • Waltz Presentation • Social Activities AKA • KAPPA BETA OMEGA • FASHIONETTA BALL 2015 1 Debutantes enjoyDebutante a process that is fair and freePoint of bias. Therefore,System each debutante has: • Received points for participation in community service activities, debutante activities, ad sales, waltz rehearsals, and for following established dress guidelines. Each of these factors is important. Significant effort is required in all areas. • Reviewed and been able to clearly articulate the point system. • Recognized that ad sales are not the only factor used to determine “Miss Fashionetta”. • Recognized that special recognitions are not based on one factor but require significant effort in several areas. • Adhered to the established point system guidelines and timelines. Points are allocated in the following areas: Community Service • 60 hours of community service is required and must be completed by the deadline. • No bonus points are given for more than 60 hours. Ads All ads must be submitted timely. All guidelines shared at the ad sales workshop must be followed. Ad points are based on a preset formula. Deb Activities • Participate in scheduled activities. • Attend activities. • Submit a calendar. • Complete assignments. • Adhere to established guidelines and timelines. Waltz Practices • Attend all scheduled dance rehearsals • Actively and fully participate in learning the choreographed waltz. • Adhere to established rehearsal guidelines and timelines. Dress Approval • Purchase the dress by the deadline. • Provide required photos of the dress by the deadline. GRADE POINT AVERAGE AND SAT/ACT SCORES ARE NOT FACTORS IN THE POINT PROCESS. Active participation in Debutante Activities is required. 4. All fees must be timely paid. 5. A minimum of 8 pages of ads must be sold. 6. A minimum of 6 dinner tickets must be sold. 7. All hair and dress guidelines must be met. I commend your organization for your commitment and service as a model for promising young ladies who represent the City of Vallejo. Your theme “Precious Pearls: Launching New Dimensions of Service” exemplifies the kind of leadership that mirrors the fabric of your sorority. It is always my pleasure to acknowledge the good work of your chapter which has been a staple of commitment to service in our community for so many years. I wish you continued success. SOROR OF THE YEAR 2014 Barbara Scott Dempsey Soror Barbara Scott Dempsey has been named Kappa Beta Omega 2014 Soror of the Year. Soror Barbara was initiated into Kappa Beta Omega Chapter on December 15, 1996. She is a very dedicated member and has held several leadership positions including Chapter President during Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority’s Centennial Year in 2008; Assistant Recording Secretary, Parliamentarian and Member-At-Large. She chaired the Health Committee for several years and represented the Chapter as sponsor of the African American Family Reunion Committee’s Juneteenth Celebration. She also led the chapter’s participation sponsorship of the American Cancer Society’s annual Relay for Life. Soror Barbara’s interest in community health stems from a 30-year career as an acute care nurse at Doctors Medical Center in Pinole, CA while selflessly balancing her devotion to family and service to AKA. Upon retirement, she remained true to her calling and began a second career as an RN for the Vallejo City Unified School District. She retired earlier this year but still assists from time to time training other nurses. Soror Barbara truly gives her best to Kappa Beta Omega and serves as a gentle mentor to other Sorors. She is proud to be an AKA woman, “because it allows me to work with Poised Professional Women of Purpose.” Congratulations, Soror Barbara. Brice is a born-again Christian who loves the Lord God with all of her heart, mind, body, soul, and strength. Firmly believing that Salvation plus Education makes a good Combination, she is in perpetual pursuit of academic excellence. She currently holds a B.A. in Liberal Studies/English Literature from Patten University, and an M.A. in Old Testament Studies from Sacramento Theological Seminary, and is the founder, president and CEO of a multi-ethnic mentorship program for girls called W.I.N.G.S. (Women Inspiring the Next Generation of Sisters). A published poet, mentor, teacher, tutor, and public speaker, her unique brand of scriptural soundness and cultural relevance make her a much sought-after Christian conference and motivational speaker throughout the Bay Area and abroad. In February, 2010, she became a published author, as well! Her first book is entitled, Weaned in the Desert: Souvenirs from Sacred Seasons with my Savior. On July 28,2015, Mrs. Brice was given the high honor of being named The First Poet Laureate of the City of Vallejo. This recognition stands alone among the many significant achievements of her life. Along with her firm foundation in Christ, Mrs. Brice is a community activist, cycling enthusiast, and dog-lover. She eagerly anticipates what The Lord will do next in her life!
