African American FFAMILYAMILY DDAYAY SupportingSupporting YourYour ’sChild’s FullFull PotentialPotential Greetings /Guardians and Students, On behalf of the UCLA-LAUSD Collaborative African American Day Committee, we would like to invite you attend the Fourth Annual African American 2016! This event is an opportunity for from Hamilton, Fairfax, University, Santee, Venice, Manual Arts, Rancho Dominguez, Westchester, Dorsey, Webster, Pio Pico and John Muir to partic- ipate in a friendly, informative setting in a day full of exciting workshops, special guests, entertainment, and a college fair. and student survey requests have helped us to prepare workshop topics and services that will help all of our African American students reach their full potential. Our day will begin at 8:30 a.m. with registration and the continental breakfast. Immediately following breakfast, you can choose from any number of helpful workshops, led by experienced, knowledgeable presenters. If it’s too hard just to choose one workshop, no problem! There will be two workshop sessions, so you can attend your second choice after the break. To help you prepare your itinerary, here are the workshop topics:

CREATING AND MAINTAINING A COLLEGE CULTURE AT HOME TRANSITIONING FROM MIDDLE SCHOOL TO HIGH SCHOOL HOW TO PAY FOR COLLEGE PROTECTING OUR CHILDREN/STUDENTS EFFECTIVE PARENT /TEACHER COMMUNICATION ADVANTAGES AND DANGERS OF SOCIAL MEDIA SUCCESS IN MIDDLE SCHOOL INCLUDING CULMINATION A PARENTS’ GUIDE TO COLLEGE AND CAREER READINESS REQUIREMENTS NCAA ELIGIBILITY AND YOUR STUDENT ATHLETE HELPING CHILDREN WITH IEPS REACH THEIR SOCIAL/EMOTIONAL SUPPORT FOR STUDENTS FULL POTENTIAL MINDSET MATTERS! THE NUTS AND BOLTS OF GRADUATION AND COLLEGE THE WORKSHOPS WILL BE FOLLOWED BY LUNCH AND A ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS KEYNOTE AND A GUEST SPEAKER. I LOVE MY SUCCESSFUL BLACK STUDENT SELF IN ADDITION TO RESOURCES TO ASSIST PARENTS, THERE WILL AFRICAN AMERICAN LANGUAGE MATTERS! BE GIFT BAGS AND A RAFFLE.

There are additional workshops and entertainment scheduled for students, and we will provide babysitting for children too young to participate. If that’s not enough, there will also be an exciting college fair, attended by representatives from CSU, UC, Community College, HBCU, and Private college and universities. In all, it’s a full day of events and services that we know you’ll enjoy and appreciate. Below, please find additional details for your information and consideration.
