Christmas in Virginia is all about tradition, family, food and fun. Enjoy a million brilliant lights at Richmond’s botanical gardens, visit a James River Plantation, feast on holiday dinners and wonder at the Grand Illumination and fireworks in Williamsburg. Our first visit is to historic Mt. Vernon, the home of George Washington. Mt. Vernon will be decorated for the season and is sure to be a highlight of our trip. We continue to Richmond, VA, where we savor a delicious dinner at one of Richmond’s favorite dining spots. We later visit Ginter Botanical Gardens, lit up for Christmas with more than a million twinkling points of light. We will take an evening stroll through the Conservatory and across the rolling and illuminated landscape. (D) Day 2: We tour Shirley Plantation, Virginia’s oldest plantation. The Carter family still lives there and welcomes us to experience the house and grounds Christmas- style with a cool Yule tour. We continue to Williamsburg and give you free time for lunch and shopping at Merchants Square. This afternoon a guide will take us on a walk down Duke of Gloucester Street into the Historic District of Williamsburg for a guided exploration of Colonial Williamsburg’s buildings and Christmas decorations. PRESENTATIONS YORK COUNTY YOUTH COMMISSION Ms. Elena Evans, Chairman of the Youth Commission, made the Commission’s Quarterly re- port, stating this year’s Commissioners began the year with a team building session held at the Hampton Roads Academy Challenge Course where the Commissioners participated in group problem solving and team building exercises. On August 22 an orientation session was held at the Tabb Library. The Commissioners had the opportunity to host several guest speakers, and had learned about leadership, the workings of the House of Delegates, and the process which bills must go through to become laws. The Commissioners elected Skyla Bailey as Vice Chair- man and Jenna Heaton as Secretary. Ms. Evans then reported on the Commission’s standing committees: Public Relations: focus on social media to reach peers about the Youth Commission and its activities by creating an Instagram; continuing improvements to the website; and con- tinuing communications through the schools.
